15. Wentworth Hotel

A few meters further will take you to the Wentworth hotel. This was the last pub built in Cessnock during the boom years and the last pub to be granted a licence on Vincent Street. Costing 12,000 pounds, it was opened in August 1924 by Robert Smith and was considered an “imposing structure”. Robert remained the licencee until his death in 1968. A publican for over 43 years would make him the longest serving in the history of the area.

Walking up Vincent Street, you will see a set of traffic lights. Here, we will turn right into Cooper Street. Before we do however, there are two interesting buildings of note.
