27. St John's Church

Continuing along Wollombi Rd, you will soon come to Westcott St. On the corner is Smythe's Funerals, a very early establishment in Cessnock. Here you turn left and on the corner is the Church of England; or, at least, most of it.

This building is actually only half a building. In 1884 St Lukes was constructed in the cemetary at Nulkaba. Visitors to this cemetary today can see a large bare patch, empty of graves where this building stood.

In 1908, the building was cut into two halves, with half transported to this spot and called St Johns Church. The other half is now a private residence in Bellbird.
