May 15, 1987: Crazy Melissa´s car fell into the San Francisco Bay with Dan Fixx and Chase and Maggie´s baby inside. Only this would have made a big season finale, but they surpassed themselves by having Chase (whose performer Foxworth wanted to leave the series) and Richard jumping into the waters to try to save the three of them. The baby was the only one who seemed to be safe in her mother´s arms when the episode ended. Other highlights of this episode were Emma´s suicide attempt from the manor rooftop, Chao-Li´s heart attack, Kit, Tony and Peter´s leaving in the Stavros jet, Eric losing his inheritance after marrying mutant Vickie (Dana Sparks), and very especially, Angela discovering through a letter from Peter that her enemy Richard was actually her own son, born from her marriage with Douglas Channing but allegedly stillborn many years before. All had been a plot of her then husband and superbitch Jacqueline...This was just another ret-con from the show´s writers that turned Selby´s character into an even more complex, tormented person that would slowly get softened as his relationship with Maggie progressed. Undoubtedly, one of the best supersoap cliffhangers ever!

Enero de 1988: El coche de la loca de Melissa caía a la Bahía de San Francisco llevando en su interior a Dan Fixx y al bebé de Chase y Maggie. Sólo con esto ya habrían conseguido un gran final de temporada, pero se superaron a si mismos al hacer que Chase (cuyo intérprete Foxworth quería dejar la serie) y Richard se zambulleran en las aguas para intentar salvar a los tres. El niño fue el único que parecía estar a salvo en los brazos de su madre cuando terminó el episodio. Otros momentos memorables fueron el intento de suicidio de Emma desde lo alto del tejado de la mansión, el ataque al corazón de Chao-Li, la partida de Kit, Tony y Peter en el avión de Stavros, Eric perdiendo su herencia tras casarse con la mutante Vickie (Dana Sparks) y, sobre todo, el descubrimiento de Angela, mediante una carta de Peter, de que su enemigo Richard era en realidad hijo de la misma Angela, fruto de su matrimonio con Douglas Channing, pero presuntamente nacido muerto muchos años antes. Todo había sido un complot de su entonces marido y la supervíbora de Jacqueline...Fue una "ret-con" más de los guionistas de la serie que convirtió al personaje de Selby en alguien aún más complejo y atormentado que iría ablandándose a medida que su relación con Maggie avanzaba. Sin duda, uno de los mejores cliffhangers de la historia de las supersoaps.
