le Château Rousseau de Sipian à Valeyrac
HISTOIRE
L’origine de l’exploitation prend sa source de l’union de Mr Guillaume Rousseau qui possédait le Domaine Frêche, et Mme Marie Bert qui elle possédait le Domaine Sipian, , Les deux propriétés en appellation Médoc Cru Bourgeois étaient répertoriées dans le Féret en 1839.
Ces deux entités sont alors regroupées sous le nom de Château Sipian, nom que porte également l’édifice de style renaissance construit en 1850 par la famille Rousseau. La production avoisine à cette époque les 100 à 150 tonneaux par an.
En 1920, la propriété est acquise par Mr Raoul Lafon. Certainement en raison de la vente de parcelles, la production passe à 50 tonneaux par an. Néanmoins Mr Lafonentreprend les premiers travaux de modernisation.
En 1939, la propriété est revendue à Mr Paul Maurice Charbonnier qui s’en sépare après la seconde guerre mondiale en 1947.
Entre 1947 et 1989, période pendant laquelle le domaine appartient successivement à la Compagnie Française de Matériel des Chemins de Fer et l’entreprise Marcel Dassault, l’activité viti-vinicole est interrompue, les bâtiments sont reconvertis en centre de vacances.
En 1989, Mr et Mme Lavaux-Bock, nouveaux propriétaires, décident de renouer avec la vigne et le vin. Ils achètent quelques parcelles de vieilles vignes et plantent dans l’enceinte du Château. Ce renouveau de l’activité impose l’adoption d’un nouveau nom, une exploitation récemment implantée s’étant attribuée le nom de Château Sipian. C’est ainsi que prend naissance la dénomination du Château Rousseau de Sipian, en référence à la famille Rousseau et à l’ancien nom du domaine de Sipian.
En 1996, Mr et Mme Girard sont les nouveaux propriétaires. Ils perpétuent l’activité viti-vinicole de leurs prédécesseurs jusqu’en Octobre 2000, date à laquelle la famille Raceyacquiert la propriété et entreprend d’importants travaux de modernisation des chais et du vignoble.
HISTORY
The property of Château Rousseau de Sipian owes its origins to the marriage between Guillaume Rousseau, owner of Domaine Frêche and Marie Bert, whose family owned the Domaine de Sipian. Both properties were Medoc Cru Bourgeois and listed in Cocks & Féret since 1839.
These two properties were joined together under the name of Château Sipian, which was also the name given to the Renaissance inspired edifice built in 1850 by the Rousseau family. At that time production was around 100 / 150 tonneaux.
In 1920 the property was acquired by Mr. Raoul Lafon who reduced the production to 50 tonneaux per annum and began the first programme of modernization.
The property was resold in 1939 to Mr. Paul Maurice Charbonnier, who owned it during the Second World War and gave it up in 1947.
Production was interrupted from 1947 until 1989, when the property was owned first of all by the French Railway Construction Company and afterwards by Marcel Dassaut’sAeronautique Company, and the buildings were used as a holiday camp for their respective employees.
In 1989, Mr. and Mrs. Laveau-Bock, the new owners of the property decided to reconstitute the vineyard and produce wine. They purchased a number of parcels of old vines in the vicinity and planted new vines in the grounds of the Château. They were obliged to find a new name for the property, since the owner of the vineyards adjoining the park had been attributed the name “Château Sipian”. Thus “Château Rousseau de Sipian” came into existence, honouring the name of the Rousseau family and the original estate.
In 1996 the property was acquired by Claude and Marie-France Girard who were responsible for making the wine until 2000. In October of that year Château Rousseau deSipian was purchased by the Racey Family who are undertaking a vast programme for the modernization of the cellars and restoration of the vineyard.
