Intelligent Design is wrong

SCMP Letters to the Editor - (Mar 16, 2009)

The Education Bureau's encouragement to schools to teach intelligent design as an alternative to evolution shows an incredible lack of responsibility and does no justice to our children's science education. There simply is no credible alternative. Evolution is a scientific fact as securely established as any.

This debate has been going on in the US for some years and the supporters of intelligent design have lost in the courts of law, they long ago lost in the halls of science and they continue to lose

with every new piece of evidence in support of evolution.

Intelligent design is nothing more than a way of bringing God into the science class. Why stop there? Should we teach astrology alongside astronomy, alchemy with chemistry? We could teach the stork theory as an alternative to human reproduction and how about 'intelligent falling' as an alternative to the theory of gravity?
