Samuel Dashwood was born by 1725, and he was yet living in 1765. I do not know his birthyear yet, because although he is called the "grandson" of the Samuel Dashwood who was Lord Mayor of London in 1702, the exact way this connection is made, has not been established by me yet. His father, whoever that was, was yet living in 1743 or 1744 as it is stated in 1744 that at the marriage contract "the fathers could not come to terms". Indicating both were living. So finding that contract could establish the name of the father. Perhaps it's on A2A.

Samuel Dashwood married Anne Bateman on 15 Apr 1744 in London. The exact church or parish I have not yet found. Anne was the sole heiress of her father James Bateman of Well Vale, co Linc by his wife Anne Chaplin. Anne was the sole heiress of her own father Robert Chaplin of Shobdon Court (which he had sold), MP, Knt and Bnt and one of the Directors of the South Sea Company when it catastrophically failed. Anne (Chaplin) Bateman did not live to see her daughter married, as Anne was buried at Well 19 Mar 1733.

Perhaps the marriage record can be found at St Botolph Bishopsgate, as the Dashwood family in a previous generation had several baptisms there.

They are stated, much later, to have had a daughter who married Carteret, and one son Francis Dashwood Bateman, the then heir to the estate (1797). I do not yet find the baptism for Francis Bateman Dashwood, however there are other children of Samuel and Anne baptised at Well, co Linc (Batch C033091 wj), including two we already know survived childhood.

The first of these two daughters would be Anne Katherine Dashwood baptised 15 Mar 1744/5, making her clearly her parents eldest child. She married John Cartwright who was apparently from Marsham, they married on 12 Nov 1780 but I do not know where yet, and this marriage was without issue.

The second daughter and clearly second child was Diana Dashwood baptised 28 Feb 1745/6. Surprisingly she married much earlier than her elder sister. The marriage settlement for Diana to marry her cousin Charles Vere Dashwood is dated 11 Jun 1765. She would have been just 19, while her elder sister Anne did not marry until the age of 35. Curious.

Other children baptised to Samuel and Anne at Well include Samuel Bateman Dashwood 2 Dec 1746; Sophia Dashwood 20 Sep 1748; George Bateman Dashwood 21 Jun 1751; and William Bateman Dashwood 1 May 1757.

I would suggest that Francis Bateman Dashwood was probably baptised 1749/50 or 1752/6 as it is known that he married on 31 Mar 1779 St Marylebone, London (Batch M035243 wj) to Teresa March one of two co-heiresses of their father John March of Waresley Park, co Hunt (also called perhaps erroneously 'of Willesley Park, Camb').
