The barony of Darcy (cr. 1332) and the barony of Meinill (cr 1336) both went into abeyance in 1418, and although assumed by a few men since that time, this was without any legal foundation.

Philip Darcy, 6th Lord Darcy was "aged 14" in 1411 when he became Lord Darcy of Knath, and Lord Darcy of Meinill (aka Meinhill). He married Alianor FitzHugh, daughter of Henry 4th Lord FitzHugh and his wife Elizabeth Gray. By her, he had two surviving daughters: first Elizabeth and second Margaret. Margaret was born posthumously, he having died 2 Aug 1418 under-age, and she born 1 Sep 1418.

The barony of Darcy of Knath devolved upon his next brother John, however the barony of Darcy of Meinill, went into abeyance between these two co-heiresses.

Elizabeth Darcy, the elder of the two, married Sir James Strangways and she was dead by Nov 1461, after having given birth to Richard Strangways (d 1488).

Margaret, the younger of the two, married John Conyers of Hornby, co York; Knight of the Garter (d 1490). They had at least three children: John, Richard, and Margery.
