If you've ever struggled with your mental health - or are currently struggling - you're not alone. About 3 out of 4 employees have at some point struggled with an issue that affected or continues to affect their mental health.
Stigma surrounding mental health can create a detrimental barrier to accessing care, treatment and help. We believe very strongly in removing that stigma, supporting our employees, and providing resources to create a culture that promotes mental health advocacy.
We wanted to provide this page as a resource guide for ways to get treatment and support. This list is not exhaustive - if you are looking for additional resources, please reach out to the People Ops team. Most of our resources are compatible for Aetna's insurance. If you do not have Aetna's insurance or are looking for different resources, UNUM.
We know costs can sometimes be a barrier. If costs are a concern for you in seeking care for your mental health, there are several ways we can help. There are also several free resources listed below, such as connecting with a free counselor through our Employee Assistance Program.
If you selected insurance and don't know where to start looking this is a simple walk through of how to navigate the site for your provider needs. Also, you are able to check to see if you current medical provider is in network.
Aetna provides 6 confidential consultations and counseling to help address grief or loss, personal or workplace concerns, legal assistance and financial coaching. These are 6 sessions per issue. All you have to do is call (888)238-6232, have your insurance info ready, and you can speak with a licensed counselor 24/7 for absolutely no charge at all. If you did not select medical insurance or have used all of your 6 sessions through Aetna, you have the option to use UNUM's EAP program. This program is just as robust as Aetna's but you have 3 counseling sessions available to you. Providers can sometimes join more than one network and you would have the possibility to keep the same provider for Aetna and UNUM. Best practice would be to ask if it's something they do.
These counselors are available to talk to you about anything, from grief, depression, anxiety, isolation, stress management, even legal and financial questions. The calls are completely confidential, and all you have to provide is your name, birth date, address, and some insurance information. If requested, they can usually make referrals to a more long term provider outside of the Employee Assistance Program.
If you or someone you know is in suicidal crisis or emotional distress, get emergency help right away. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline offers 24/7 support through an online chat called Lifeline Chat. You can also call 1-800-273-8255 or 1-800-799-4889 (TTY) for support. Contact the lifeline for 24/7, free and confidential support and crisis intervention.
