Reflecting on my goals for this semester:
This semester, I had many opportunities to experiment with light and explore new photographic techniques. Through these experiences, I feel that I successfully achieved my goal of expanding my knowledge in the field of photography. Learning how to work with light, whether shaping it, controlling it, or manipulating it creatively, has shown me just how essential this skill is to producing unique, high-quality photographs. Understanding light has not only improved my technical abilities but has also pushed me to think more intentionally about composition and mood in my work. I am excited to carry these skills into next semester as I move on to Advanced Photo III, where I look forward to learning even more about film photography and experimenting with different styles and creative approaches.
In terms of planning and the execution of my assignments, I believe I performed very well. On a scale of one to five, I would give myself a five overall. I consistently put in a strong effort both in and out of class, and I made a conscious attempt to use new techniques in both photographing and editing that I had not previously explored. For each assignment, I also went above and beyond the requirements by taking far more photos than necessary and experimenting with a wide range of subjects. To continue improving my work, I would like to set a personal goal of bringing my camera with me more often. I know I miss many opportunities to take photos, and doing this would allow for greater variety and the development of a style that feels more raw, spontaneous, and in the moment.
This semester, I am most proud of the work I completed using film photography. Although I missed a significant portion of this unit while I was in Europe, the experience I gained there provided me with valuable knowledge and skills. Learning how to properly use film, adjust lighting with precision, and develop photographs based on specific timing opened up an entirely new area of learning within my photography practice. The photos I produced during this unit had very positive results, with many of them turning out beautifully. While I know there is still much more to learn about film photography, I am excited to continue developing these skills and exploring new possibilities next semester.
This semester I really want to refine my lighting and camera setting capabilities. I know theres so much more to a camera then just pointing a snapping and I think getting good at those skills will make for even better photos. To accomplish this I think just going out and taking pictures even when I don't have assignments to do and just getting the most practice I possibly can. To add on I really want to perfect my film camera skills. Theres so much more to taking a film photo than a digital one so improving that would be really unique.
