Above you can see (photo in portfolio) a picture of my final Still Life drawing, this is, in my opinion, the best piece of work I produced this year and I really do love it. I think I really paid attention to detail while maintaining the difficult stippling format. While it took extra time to execute I think I did a really good job. I really did surprise myself with the amount of focus I managed to have when closing in on small details and really perfecting each little piece of my work. Carrying forward this piece using the new knowledge of space, contrast of colors, and the new drawing style i'll be able to make better pieces of art in the future
This year some table members and I took time to acknowledge the work of Joel Sartore. As we viewed and researched his work it really opens our eyes to what impact art can make on animal's lives who may have nothing to do with the overall making of the piece. With one simple picture, an animal can really be viewed and brought to light by many. I decided to carry this through when making a clay tile piece of an animal from our own backyards! This Royal River watershed Species project allows us to see beauty in all different kinds of animals no matter if they are endangered or not we research these animals and encapsulate their lives into our own pieces. This really showed me what one can do and capture with one piece of art.
Carrying my knowledge into next semester's ceramics class I'm excited to see what other animal-related projects can do. I love having the ability to capture a living species in a still piece and allowing that one piece to teach you so much. My goal is to start working on more art in general but also finding more talent in capturing things in a still state whether its a living thing or things I find around the house.
This year my favorite project to make had to have been the Royal river animal tile project I love working with clay, and I kinda wish we had more opportunities with clay! As well as working with more clay I wish we had the opportunity to use paper mache and make more 3d sculptures. I think 3d aspects are really cool and I love getting to really hold a finished art piece in my hand and get the full feeling of it being there
Art is a relaxing and fun output for me, hands-on work has always been something that provides balance and enjoyment in my life and is a great way to express what I'm feeling. Im inspired by nature with things like wildlife, foliage, and plants, I've always really had an appreciation for flora, and through this class, I hope to better my skills of capturing the world around me and incorporating light and shadows in my work. I wish to get the chance to work with sculpting with clay and finding new ways to repurpose old things maybe making one thing into something it's not. Im excited to continue my work in this class and grow through this semester because art is so important to me.
