I’d compare working with clay to other materials to working with wire I feel like both materials have such a memory that they can be difficult but really cool to work with. They also allow for pieces to become 3d as well as incorporate other items into them like stones and prints.
To stay organized in this class I'll make sure to update my calendar and use my clipper times wisely when work is needed to be finished.
A big inspiration when looking back on my work and what more Id like to do in the future I know I definitely want to incorporate lots of flora and fauna with leaves and textures as the daffodil sculpture showed with the petals and leaves.
This semester I would love to make a pot for one of my plants! This would have to include a spot for drainage but sealed sides with the ability to hold soil.
Out of all the class projects I'm definitely most proud of my most recent project Pueblo coil pot. I found that while making the project I spent my time very well and It came out way better than anticipated! The color (after firing not in pictures) was just how I wanted it and even though the inside of it isn't perfectly smoother the outside came out great with the cute little designs I added! I think it came out awesome and it will be a cute little pot I can put some dried lavender in or something!
When making pieces in class I learned the value of time in ceramics and keeping a strong pace when making things. I really experienced this when making my pinch pots and my mug. In both pieces I struggled severely with uncontrollable cracking but once I learned to find a pace the cracking went away and I found the right times for things like carving and attaching things etc!
When coming into Ceramics 1 I wanted to make things to put plants in and things with plants and animals on them, and I definitely succeeded! I made a box with a cat and mouse on it as well as trays and pinch pots with leaves and leafy colors and a mug with an ocean view! And for a pot for plants, all of my pinch pots currently hold seedlings so that executed well! I'm happy to have met my goals!
