In this class, students will explore all sides of producing theatre, including auditioning, casting, directing, producing, marketing, and even playwriting. You’ll learn how to make creative decisions, work as a team, and bring a production to life from start to finish. Whether you see yourself running auditions, directing scenes, promoting a show, or creating original work, this class is all about collaboration, creativity, and leadership—while still having a ton of fun making theatre together! Description
If you’re interested in theatre but don’t want to be on stage or if you’ve ever been curious about what happens behind the scenes of a live theatrical production, then this class is for you. In this half year course, students will be introduced to all the elements of technical theatre. We will study scenic design, costume design, lighting design, and sound design. We will also learn basic scenic construction skills, scenic painting skills, and prop making skills. Additionally, students will learn how to run all the stage equipment in Bonneville’s auditorium. If students are interested in working backstage for any of Bonneville’s productions and assemblies, this class must be completed first.

After learning all the fundamentals in Intro to Technical Theatre, students have the opportunity to work on the Bonneville stage. Students in this course will construct and paint all the scenery for the theatre department’s mainstage productions. Additionally, students may apply to stage manage productions. The opportunity to design lights, sound, and props for class productions and region competition pieces will also be available. Students in this class will work as the backstage running crew for productions as well as run assemblies and auditorium facility rentals. Students who are interested in pursuing technical theatre in college should take this course. After school commitment is expected.
