This course enables students to explore their creativity in the field of interior design. Identification of the elements and principles of design are emphasized. Other topics included are furniture arrangement basics, floor plan evaluation, area planning and careers. This course will strengthen comprehension of concepts and standards outlined in Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education. FCCLA may be an integral part of this course.

This course provides students the opportunity to develop skills in applying the elements and principles of design to interiors. Projects are integrated throughout the course to provide applications as the students' study: architecture, furniture styles and constructions, surface treatments and backgrounds, design and function of space and lighting. WSU PS 1503 - This course explores how fashion influences everyday life and introduces students to the fashion industry. Topics covered include: fashion fundamentals, elements and principles of design, textiles, consumerism, and fashion related careers, with an emphasis on personal application. This course will strengthen comprehension of concepts and standards outlined in Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education. FCCLA and/or DECA may be an integral part of this course.

Description

This concurrent enrollment course expands on foundational sewing skills through an applied, college-level curriculum focused on sports and outdoor projects. Students will demonstrate proficiency in the safe operation, care, and maintenance of sewing machines while constructing functional and well-designed items suited for active and outdoor use. Emphasis is placed on precision, pattern interpretation, material selection, and problem-solving throughout the design and construction process. In addition to advanced sewing techniques, students will develop essential academic and workforce skills including critical thinking, attention to detail, time management, perseverance, and the ability to follow multi-step technical instructions. Successful completion of the course provides students the opportunity to earn college credit while gaining practical, transferable skills for personal use or future career pathways.

This intermediate-level course is designed to further strengthen and expand students’ sewing, design, and production skills. Students will design and construct more complex projects using a variety of construction techniques, fabrics, and equipment, with an emphasis on sports and outdoor applications. Through hands-on projects, students refine accuracy, problem-solving, and production planning while increasing independence in the design process. The course also introduces connections to the global sports and outdoor industry, entrepreneurial opportunities, and career pathways. Students are encouraged to develop leadership skills and may participate in student leadership activities and competitive events.
