The Scheme of Delegation document sets out how accountability and decision-making works within a multi academy trust. It details which tasks are carried out by the trust board, academy committees/LGBs and the executive team. It is an essential document that the trust board must approve annually and publish on the website.
Any decision to delegate a task/responsibility is made by the full Board of Trustees. Without such delegation, an individual/committee has no power to act. Although decisions may be delegated, the Trust Board as a whole remains responsible for any decision made under delegation.
As committees of the Board of Trustees, LGBs have been given delegated authorities to make decisions, monitor, evaluate and review plans, policies and targets in relation to their own academy, on behalf of the Board and the CEO.
LGB’s cannot make decisions unless the Scheme of Delegation shows that they are responsible for that specific function.
The document is split into seven sections:
Section 1 - Trust Board, Governance & Strategy
Section 2 - Staffing
Section 3 - Finance
Section 4 - Risk Management
Section 5 - School Improvement
Section 6 - Student Voice & Family Engagement
Section 7 - Premises, ICT & Health & Safety
The Board of Trustees may reserve the right to vary the delegation of powers. The Trust Board cannot revise those powers held by Members.
