Windsor College Feedback
Conference 1
Conference 1
You Said, We Did - 23/24
CATERING AND ESTATES - Includes facilities, parking, security and catering
Students would like to see the return of the smoking area as the only place they can now smoke is at the front of the College site where they are seen by members of the public. This is uncomfortable for both students and residents.
The student entrance turnstiles are breaking frequently, causing congestion. Please can this be fixed?
The college made the decision to become a non smoking site in September 2023, enabling to move towards becoming a more healthy and sustainable site. Please visit the Health and Wellbeing Hub for signposting to stop smoking organisations and support groups.
The turnstyles have now been fixed. Many thanks for your feedback.
STUDENT SERVICES - Includes tutorial, attendance, careers & placements, financial support, library services, administration, safeguarding & wellbeing, student enrichment
TMail is incredibly text-heavy and not very easy to read. Information about extra curricular activities goes through core studies but not all of the teachers give students sufficient time to read the slides, and often they are not explained properly. This impacts on things like club attendance. Please could the College promote extra curricular activities via a newsletter instead?
Tutor Reps felt strongly that the images on the dress code needed to be 'equalised' as they overly focus on female examples of bad clothing and less on male examples.
People want more clubs and societies in the college (Karaoke, chess, etc). One Rep stated at the last Conference that the ‘College is good, but not fun’
Sanitary products were removed from the girls toilets last term. As a result they are more inaccessible for the majority, as many female identifying students feel uncomfortable asking for them or collecting them from Student Services / Learning Centre where they are seen. Please can the change be reversed?
Bursaries help only applies to students with family incomes below £30,000 but many have parents earning more than that and still struggle to afford the expensive train journey tickets. Please can the support threshold be extended, eg below £40,000?
We have listened to your feedback and are currently trialing a weekly Student Newsletter as part of Tutorial. The newsletter will consist of short bullet points with hyperlinks to further signposting.
A revised version of this poster has now been updated with input from the Student Union.
We have seen a significant number of new clubs this academic year, including a Karaoke Club, Debate Club, Board Games Club and Marxism Study Group among others. As a new innovation this year we have introduced Google Classroom pages for each club, providing a new mechanism for effective communication between club leaders and their membership. Please see the enrichment pages on the Student Services googlesite to find out which clubs and societies are currently available.
We have listened to your feedback and put sanitary products back into the toilets. However we will have no choice but to remove sanitary products from the toilets again if they are misused in future. It was a behaviour incident that caused the products to be temporarily removed.
The figure is set by WFCG and has been increased by £4,000 from last year, but unfortunately we cannot increase this further due to limited funds. Students may seek advice from Financial Support on the most economical way to travel and the offers provided by Public transport. The £2 cap on bus travel is available till December 2024.
TEACHING AND LEARNING - Includes all curriculum related matters, exams, assessment, homework, study plus, department trips & visits
Some students were unable to attend Fresher's Fair as Science had organised a Chemistry Test. Please could these kinds of clashes be prevented in future?
Many students don’t understand how to manage time, due to college offering alot of freedom they are more likely to forget about study plus sessions or have no idea what that is. Reps think the idea of study plus is great, but many students need to be guided with what to do and how to use those sessions effectively.
Students are disappointed by the lack of sports facilities. Is there anything that can be done to provide sporting opportunities?
Students feel that one hour and a half for lessons is too long as they struggle to concentrate for the whole length of time. Can lesson times be reduced?
Teachers are refusing to add predicted grades to Unifrog. Is there a reason why?
Key dates are given to staff well in advance and we will remind staff to look at planned activities against these key dates. There were still lots of students in attendance enjoying all of the activities.
Study plus information was circulated to students and parents in the Autumn Term. On the googlesites there are study plus guides for all subjects which should steer students towards what they are doing. This has been audited and we can confirm every subject has their own dedicated googlesite. The easiest way to access these sites is to visit the Student Intranet and click on the Course Sites button, then find your subject.
We are small college site with no access to our own facilities. We are aware of a desire from some students to engage with sport. We have approached various local gyms and the local leisure centre but are yet to find a partner for this work. We will continue to investigate options for students to engage in activities offsite.
Unfortunately this isn't possible due to the amount of content that subjects need to cover and the logistics of timetabling all of this, including statutory requirements for learning hours
This isn't correct. They go on in June, they are then checked in September to ensure accuracy. It is a requirement for predicted grades to be added. If there is a specific teacher this comment refers to please speak to the Tutorial team and this can be chased up.
