Strode's College Feedback
Conference 2
Conference 2
You Said, We Did - 23/24
CATERING AND ESTATES - Includes facilities, parking, security and catering
A number of improvements could be made to Catering, such as improving healthy food options, pricing, meal deals and overall customer service
There are a number of issues with toilets across the site including:
Tap pressure in Student Services
A need for hangers on the inside of doors
Paper towel dispensers jamming
Toilets being blocked
Stocking of towels and paper
Locks not working properly
Car park does not have enough spaces and the lines are faded.
Can students work for the contractors e.g. as a cleaner?
Lots of classrooms have bent / broken chairs and the ones in Tercentenary are uncomfortable.
Can teachers decorate the coridoors?
Some of the hedges on narrow walkways are getting a bit overgrown
More spaces / seats for eating inside
The noticeboards are on the floor of the Hub.
The College is very grateful for this feedback and reviewing all of the detailed comments provided by Tutor Reps alongside the catering supplier to improve service levels.
Thank you, we will build in an audit of the toilets into the repair schedule to ensure these are included as part of the review.
If toilets require cleaning or something is broken, please report it into Student Services who can get it looked at ASAP.
We are limited in parking based on the size of the site. The lines are due to be refreshed in the summer term.
Yes. Please speak to Martin Carmichael if you are interested and he will put you in touch with Lakethorne who manage the cleaning contracts.
Please email estates.strodes@windsor-forest.ac.uk with room numbers and we will investigate further.
Teachers are encouraged to develop engaging curriculum displays. We are working on a number of projects in the corridors to improve the 'feel' of the college. A timeline can be seen around MA22, positive comments on the main corridor and creative media designs opposite the Learning Centre. More projects are planned.
The hedges can only be cut at certain times of the year (pruning) but this has now been resolved.
We are limited in the changes we can make to some of Strode's spaces due to building restrictions. Students can currently eat indoors in Coopers' Hall and the Cafe.
The Urban Garden is an outdoor heated space and we have plans to build an additional outdoor space outside of the Tercentenary Building.
This was due to decorating in the Hub. They have now been put back on the walls.
STUDENT SERVICES - Includes tutorial, attendance, careers & placements, financial support, library services, administration, safeguarding & wellbeing, student enrichment
Please could the College continue to provide opportunities for different groups of students to interact, such as Halloween, Winter and Freshers Fairs, Wellbeing Week etc.
The Learning Centre gets very noisy due to the high volume of people who use it.
Feedback on clubs:
Some students don’t know how to set up a new club.
Club times sometimes clash with lessons
Heritage resources and the E Books are difficult to locate, can this be made simpler?
Most companies will not take you on unless you are at least 18. However finding a work placement is mandatory.
Feedback on the cashless portal:
Can we have Applepay to pay for services?
Tell us more about how to use it.
More charging points in the Learning Centre
Can the student newsletter:
Have a more simple background
Be split into year 1 and year 2 notices
Can the Learning Centre be opened later?
We will be discussing the Summer Fair at the next conference to get student ideas and will continue to investigate opportunities.
The numbers of students using the facility has doubled in the past 12 months which is fantastic, but it does mean the noise levels have gone up a bit. We have restructured the space with new shelving, welcome desk and study layout based on this feedback.
A new simpler guide has been created and disseminated as a poster to guide students on how to organise a club.
As most clubs are currently student led, the timings fit around the club leaders. We are looking at a wider enrichment offer from September to allow students more opportunity to engage with activities and develop skills.
The Learning Centre team have taken on this feedback and will produce a display in the coming weeks explaining how this works. Full details can be found on the Student Services site, under Learning Centre. A link is here.
The College recognises the difficulties many students are having with finding placements and will set up networking groups to identify potential opportunities. Some places will not take under 18's for health and safety reasons, but other than that, there shouldn't be reasons not to take students. Please remember to try to think about the skills you need to get to your final job and think outside the box about where you could get these. Your teachers will be able to provide insights and our Careers and Placements team offer 1:1 appointments to help guide you in your choices.
We are currently investigating the introduction of different 'quick pay' options for students to make it easier to pay for things at events, make donations or complete quick transactions such as purchasing IDs.
We will look to develop some user guides, if there are specific things you find tricky, please speak to Student Services so that we can tailor the information we put together.
We will look into how we can integrate more charging points into the Learning Centre so that students can utilise their own devices for study. This is likely to be over the summer term / holidays.
We are still trialling the newsletter and we will be running some more detailed focus groups. The background has been changed and we will look to see how we can make notice audiences clearer / easier for students to pick out.
We have reviewed later Learning Centre hours previously and had little or no take up. We will investigate the option of longer hours during exam periods, perhaps on certain days.
IT & LEARNING TECHNOLOGY SERVICES - Includes access to computers, ILP, student software, wifi, college app, google classrooms
The printers are very slow
Computers should be checked regularly for faults.
More promotion of the app and what it can be used for. Other comments:
search option on the app
Not having to sign in so much on Google
Printers asking you to log in each time.
We are unaware of printing issues relating to this. Please contact the IT department or LC staff with specific examples and we can look into this fully for you.
TEACHING AND LEARNING - Includes all curriculum related matters, exams, assessment, homework, study plus, department trips & visits
Teachers are on the whole very approachable and open and you can talk to them about anything.
Having core studies at the start of the week is inconvenient - nobody likes Mondays.
Thank you for sharing this, it is much appreciated as our teaching and support staff work long hours and are dedicated to providing an outstanding student experience.
Various comments have been received regarding Core Studies and the programme will be revamped next year. Many thanks for your feedback
