Due to the fact that I was required to attend training for our new math resources, I was not at school today. There was a substitute teacher supervising students while they worked on material pertinent to our current unit.
CW: Complete Task 1.11 due 1/24. Students do NOT have to do all things listed in the task for each problem. I am looking for students to be able to tell if the situation is arithmetic or geometric, linear or exponential, find the recursive and explicit rules, and be able to show in a table.
HW: In case students are attempting to the RSG 1.11 for extra practice.
9/21/18
CW: We did a warmup involving exponential growth with percents (finding both the recursive and explicit rules). Students took a quiz on material from 1.5 - 1.10. While they took the quiz, I looked at the students' workbooks for an effort-based practice grade.
HW: None
9/20/18

CW: Students did not complete lesson 1.7 during Florence days. So I spent time in class going over lesson 1.7 (answer keys already provided). We discussed using function notation for recursive rules for both arithmetic and explicit sequences and patterns during the first 15 minutes of class. I also included the explicit rule for each of the two examples in the notes. Completed most of Task 1.8 in class.
I handed out graded Quiz 1 (1.1-1.4) back to students. Students are welcome to work with me after class. All corrections must be turned in by 9/21. I will not accept corrections after due date. This must be in your student's digital portfolio.
HW: Complete RSG 1.8 & 1.9 due 9/20. Be ready for a HW Check tomorrow covering RSG 1.7 - 1.8.

***ALL TASKS AND READY,SET,GOs CAN BE FOUND UNDER THE CURRICULUM TAB UNDER NC MATH 1 SHOULD A STUDENT LOSE HIS/HER BOOKLET OR LEAVE IT AT SCHOOL.
9/5/18
CW: Collected Forms. We had Q & A time for hw (RSG 1.1). Students completed Task 1.2). We re-visited the last part of Task 1.1 to make sure students realized that coming up with explicit rules can vary depending on each student's approach to the pattern. I reminded them that ultimately all of the rules would simplify to the same rule. We also discussed writing recursive rules. I gave students some notes on the various ways that recursive rules can be written (and how they might see them in MVP, EOC and classes).
HW: Complete RSG 1.2 due 9/6.
***ALL TASKS AND READY,SET,GOs CAN BE FOUND UNDER THE CURRICULUM TAB UNDER NC MATH 1 SHOULD A STUDENT LOSE HIS/HER BOOKLET OR LEAVE IT AT SCHOOL.

Week of 8/27/18
We went over general procedures for eighth grade as well as some math-specific procedures (found on Guidelines and Procedures Handout) during Leadership week. Students took a Pre-Unit Diagnostic Assessment; this will NOT count as part of their grades. It was given to determine what strengths/weaknesses that students may have on some of the material that might be beneficial to know as we start the Math 1 curriculum next week.
