Learning and practicing the best strategies to close read and annotate text are key to high engagement and deep understanding to the complex text you will read this year. Always keep your "Things Close Readers Do" bookmark (seen below) inside your book to help you remember to apply close reading strategies. While reading literature, identify the 6 "signposts" to help you understand and respond to character development, conflict, point of view, and theme. These strategies are the key to successfully interacting and engaging with the text.
1) Write annotations directly on the pages of your own purchased copy of a text.
2) Rip sticky notes into thirds. Write annotations on the sticky notes and stick to the corresponding pages. Draw arrows indicating to which sentence/paragraph your annotation exactly corresponds.
2) Record annotations in your writing notebook. House a digital "Annotations" folder within your ELA Google Drive Folder. Remember to include the page number for each annotation.
3) Record voice clips of your annotations and house in a "Annotations" folder within your ELA Google Drive Folder.
