Having had a COVID enforced break for a couple of years, our traditional end of year Group meeting returned for the first time in three years. With Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Young Leaders, volunteers, and Leaders meeting at Coton for activities, hot dogs, and badge presentations.
At the start of the meeting, Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts gathered sticks for our fires. Learning about the need for finding and sorting sticks of different thicknesses and lengths before you even begin to think about lighting your fire.
It was then time for water bomb making. A serious business.
After they'd made their water bombs the Beavers had hot dogs and crisps. Or in some cases crisps and crisps!
It was then time to have a go at throwing our water bombs at targets. Tricky. With the water bombs being made from paper, once they're filled they need to be launched quickly. Hold on to it too long and it becomes a bit of a soggy mess.
The Beavers then had their badge presentation before heading home.
Getting Ready To Bomb the Fires
The Cubs and Scouts were split into two teams and each team was given the task of using the previously gathered material to build and start a fire. After being given a set amount of time to get their fire going, they then took it in turns to try and water bomb the other team's fire to a soggy mess.
Harder than it looks. Although there were some good hits, both fires survived the onslaught.
It was then time for the Cubs' badge presentation before they headed home.
With the younger sections gone, the Scouts finished the evening's activities with a water gun fight. Some Scouts take this very seriously and there were some very lethal water guns being used.
Which meant that by the time of the Scouts badge presentation, they're were some very wet and bedraggled Scouts. Including the "Banging Buzzards" team who were presented with their trophies following their win at the Jubilee Cup Patrol Camp 2022.
And that's it for another Scouting year. Time for a summer break, and to look forward to a new year of Scouting starting in September.
