When: 1 - 3 May
Where: Ragley Hall, Alcester, Warwickshire
We understand that everyone is very excited about Get In, but if your young person isn't well, or has had diarrhoea or vomiting in the 48 hours before Get In, then they shouldn't attend. Any doubts about whether your young person should be kept at home, check the NHS website: is-my-child-too-ill-for-school? If your young person is too ill for school, then they are too ill for Get In.
Before Get In, check Personal Details in OSM are up to date, especially:
Primary Contact 1 & Primary Contact 2 mobile phone numbers.
Emergency Contact
This must be someone who is contactable if Primary Contact 1 and 2 will not be contactable at any point during the weekend of Get In.
Medical details
Include here any details of prescription medicines that your young person will be bringing to Get In. If you want prescription medicines to be looked after by leaders please bring in a resealable clear labeled plastic bag which includes any necessary dosage instructions.
It's also a good time to make sure that your young person has sufficient quantity of any prescription medicines to bring to Get In. We have had young people turn up with empty asthma inhalers and unfortunately have to go home early on previous camps
Allergies
Dietary restrictions.
Any change in allergies or dietary restrictions please let your Section Leader know ASAP as we've already planned our meals, and our shopping for our meals.
Consents.
The following items are prohibited:
Family pets, that includes drop-off and pick-up. Assistance animals are allowed.
Drones.
Personal transport. E.g. Bikes, scooters etc.
Please avoid bringing the following:
Glass bottles.
Anything in excessive packaging, that will generate excessive waste.
Expensive and precious items.
There will be no secure storage facilities on camp, and leaders can't safely store expensive or precious items.
Checkout our Nights Away page for links to useful pages on camping and what to bring.
But some key points:
Shower \ washing facilities are limited. Not that young people like wasting time showering when on camp. It's a good idea to pack dry and \ or wet wipes for a quick and convenient clean.
Whilst open toed sandals \ crocs etc will be accepted around camp, your young person will need closed toed shoes for the activity zones. If they head into the activity zones in the wrong type of shoes they'll likely find themselves unable to do some activities.
If your young person can't tie their shoelaces yet, please don't send them in laced footwear.
And most importantly uniform. Uniform will need to be worn for drop-off and for the first night through to the opening ceremony. Uniform will also need to be for pick-up. For the rest of camp 6th Rugby necker needs to be worn.
Smoking is only allowed in designated areas that will be away from young people. So as you'll be in areas with young people during drop-off and pick-up, no smoking at either please.
Those arriving Friday evening (e.g. Cubs, Scouts, etc.): 19:00-20:00 @ Green Car Park
Those arriving Saturday morning (e.g. Beavers and day visitors): 08:30-09:00 @ Red Car Park
Those leaving Saturday evening (e.g. day visitors): 19:00-19:30 @ Red Car Park
Those leaving Sunday evening (e.g. Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, etc) 16:00-16:30 @ Green Car Park
Note that parent \ carers aren't allowed onto the camp site at drop-off. I.e. You won't be able to help carry your young person's kit to our camp site.
Details of the two entrances, Green, Gate B for Green car park and Red, Gate A for Red car park below.
Warwickshire Scouts have also produced a video: http://www.getincamp.co.uk/siteaccess
At pick-up you are allowed onto the camp site. There be signs telling you where 6th Rugby is camping. And you'll be please to know that we're close to the Green Car Park.
Whenever exiting onto the public road, you should turn right.
Before taking part in water activities, leaders will make young people aware of the risk of Weil’s Disease (Leptospirosis). This disease is caused by bacteria carried in rat urine, which can contaminate water, mud, and wet riverbanks. The bacteria can enter the body through cuts, grazes, or through the mouth and eyes, particularly if someone falls into the water.
Although rare, it can be a serious illness and may require hospital treatment.
Leaders will remind young people to report to an adult if they feel unwell after water activities, especially if they have been in stagnant water or muddy areas.
Symptoms to watch for include:
High temperature
Flu-like symptoms
Muscle aches and pains
If any young person develops these symptoms after water activities, parents or carers should be advised to contact their doctor and explain that the young person has taken part in water activities.
Leaders will remind young people to follow these simple precautions:
Cover all cuts and grazes with waterproof plasters before entering the water.
Wear suitable footwear at all times to protect feet from cuts.
Wash hands and face before eating or drinking.
Shower as soon as possible after water activities.
Always follow good hygiene practices, especially after falling into the water.
There will be an event tuck shop, selling drinks, snacks and confectionery. It will be accepting cash and card payments. There will also be selling a range of Get In pocket-money items (separately to any pre-ordered items), plus a small quantity of merchandise (T-Shirts, Hoodies, Bucket Hats, Neckers & Water Bottles). In addition, there'll be a coffee trailer. If you'd like leaders to look after money, please have a clear resealable labeled plastic bag, separately to any medicines.
If you need to contact your Young Person or the leadership team during Get In, please contact Toad (M: 07484 658919).
We'll have a WhatsApp group for the camp where we'll share updates including photos. Photos are not to be posted on wider social media unless it is of your young person only. If you want to be on our WhatsApp group please inform me, Toad.
Lost Property will be held at the Event Reception during the event.
Afterwards, photos will be posted on Facebook (www.facebook.com/getincamp) and held for two weeks. Anything unclaimed after this time will be donated to charity/reused.
Label everything! If space is limited then label "6Rmn" where mn are your young person's initials.
And in case you've got any worries, a positive note to end on.
Scout Camps create positive memories and experiences that will last a lifetime. I can still remember some of the experiences of my first patrol camp as a Scout. And that was a long time ago now. Our leadership team will be doing their best to make sure that happens for all our Young People. Get In creates an atmosphere and presents opportunities that we simply can't match as a Group, even as a District. Thousands of Warwickshire's young people coming together to have a super time.
