Class of 2025

Majors: Biotechnology (BBT) and Biochemistry (CBC)

My Experience: At WPI, I have found that collaboration rules over competition, interdisciplinary work is intrinsically weaved into the fabric of our great institution, failure is essential and embraced openly as a powerful learning tool, and the theory we are taught by world-class faculty is practiced to create actualized change. This is true for the GPS, IQP, MQP, undergraduate research, and more! The number of student resources starting with the Insight Program in your first year allows for students to obtain the support they need to skyrocket to success! Additionally, the connections I've made with faculty and peers through my involvement and courses have been invaluable to my growth socially, academically, and professionally. It's been an overwhelming joy, privilege, honor, and blessing to be part of this brilliant community. This is the place for me!

The Future: As a double major, I aspire to combine my interests in biotechnology and its biochemical underpinnings to achieve a Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry with a focus on pharmacognosy, drug discovery, and metabolic engineering.

CK Guide Note: I am experienced with the Office of Accessibility Services, accommodations, learning differences, and non-traditional learning backgrounds.

🐐🐐🐐 INVOLVED GOAT HIGHLIGHTS 🐐🐐🐐

Community Advisor

New Student Orientation (NSO) is my favorite time of year, meeting with new students, connecting with them wherever they are, and helping them find success.

In collaboration with an insight team, I assist a cohort of 20 students in adjusting to WPI within their first semester. I plan social engagement programs that promote academic growth, professional development, mental health and well-being, and diversity, equity, and belonging. I academically advise and aid in the formation of schedules and 4-year plans and connect students to campus resources. Lastly, I coordinate with a student-faculty team to ensure a welcoming and safe community.

Undergraduate Research

Under the guidance of Dr. Pamela Weathers, I research the therapeutic and mechanistic properties of Artemisia annua and A. afra for treating TB, COVID-19, and the broad pathological condition, fibrosis. In collaboration with the Dominko lab, I currently work on the comparison of Artemisia extracts vs. the pure drugs, artemisinin, artesunate, and dihydroartemisinin in dermal fibroblasts.

The Spanish Fluency Association is dedicated to creating opportunities and an immersive environment for any individual of Worcester Polytechnic Institute who desires to strengthen their ability to speak the Spanish language. In doing so, the environment we create upholds values of community, intellectual risk, and perseverance and encourages methods of acquisition to enable speakers to increase their oratory skills over time, fearlessly. Activities involve informal discussions, games, guest speakers, cultural trips, joint activities with other Spanish clubs on campus, and much more.
