Hey All! My name is James Langley, I'm a second year Civil Engineering student here at WPI. I chose WPI because of the emphasis on project based learning in my academic life, and the very lively and passionate community. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me at the email above!
Campus Involvements
I'm a resident advsior for first year undergraduate students. It's been a blast getting to foster a community in and out of the resident halls. Getting to be a part of a positive first year experince is very rewarding, and I'm glad I get to be a part of it.
In Student Alumni Society, we work to maintain a strong connection with current students and alumni. In addition to getting to meet and network with WPI's alumni, we also get to run awesome events for the undergraduate students.
ASCE's WPI chapter allows me to advance my career and porfessional goals with other students in my major. I get to share the knowledge I've learnt from my internship, and learn about other Civil Engineering job and career opportunities
I choose Civil Engineering because, to me, making an impact on the world is the most important thing that a person can do. Civil Engineering means developing, planning, and being a part of building the places in which people inhabit. Whether that be general construction, water infrastructure, transportation engineering, or environmental conservation, all of Civil Engineering involves creating a real world impact to the people around us.
When I was looking for colleges, I wanted a university experience that would empower me to make a concrete difference in the world, and set the stage for me to succeed in doing real world work, with real world impact. WPI is the best place to learn how to make an impact, as the curriculum blends the theoretical concepts of the classroom with the practical, hands-on work in the field. Hence the motto of the institute, Lehr und Kunst. WPI students are highly-motivated, career driven, and often enter the industry already prepared with practical knowledge about their field.
My advice to you, wherever you end up, is to do something exceptional with your life. Always approach life with unwavering fervor and energy, and always put your full weight into every endeavor which you pursue.
