Red Powder Puff (Calliandra haematocephala)

Native to: South America (Boliva)

Size: 12-15 feet (10-15 feet wide)
Sun: Full sun but does better in part sun around California
Hardiness: zone 9 (I'd guess 28 degrees)
Water: Medium to high (4-5 times weekly during dry months)
Flowers: emerge as a flushed pink color but mature to dark green
Attracts: This plant is attractive to bees, butterflies, and birds
Pests: Argentine Ants seem to love this plant, yet don't seem to affect it negatively
Other Information: Grows at a moderate rate, and seems fragile. Responds well to mild pruning.
