- Dragon Fruit variety 'SUGAR DRAGON' AKA (Paul Thomson's '8-S') Has very tasty fruit with an average brix rating or sugar content of 19-22 BRIX which is very high compared to most varieties. Exterior is red and fruit flesh is a purplish-red. Fruits are not huge but do have a great taste and average 3/4 of a pound. This variety is self-pollinating.
More info: This variety was renamed by Linda Nickerson of Elk Creek Farms for 2 reasons; 1) '8-S' is not a very marketable name 'SUGAR DRAGON' sounds very pleasant and tasty as this fruit is. 2) Over the years with much trading amongst growers/hybridizers there became a discrepancy with 2 varieties of '8-S' out there, one not self-pollinating with the '8-S'-('SUGAR DRAGON') variety being Self-pollinating so giving a new name helps stop some of the confusion.
