ABOUT THE EVENT
The Department of English is pleased to announce its 1st Virtual Literature Festival 2020.
This event will test student’s creative, analytical and critical skills and prowess for the art of presentation in various competitions.
We agree that every individual is different and possess unique capacities. The purpose of this festival and various competitions is to provide all the students with a platform to showcase their skills and encourage to perform better cooperatively and effectively with digital tools. This event will be important for encouraging effective and innovative learning in the era of COVID 19.

1 & 2: BOOK/ FILM/ WEB SERIES REVIEW
Generally, a review of any artistic production - be it film or book, can be in a flexible form. Here are some points mentioned for consideration.
A good film or book has no ending; it stays…with us…
This literature festival, share your review of your favorite book or film or the most liked web series.
How to participate in these events?
On the scheduled day, the participants shall join Live Session and 'Present' or 'Read' the review.
Alternatively, the participant can 'pre-shoot' and submit the link of the video or play video in Live Session
Time: 5 minutes (The entry will be rejected if more than 5 minutes are taken by participants in Live Presentation or Pre-Recorded Video)
Note- The purpose of the review is to critically evaluate the text (Book, Film, Web series), not just inform the readers about it. Ensure that your summary is brief and effective. 3: Brush up Literature (Painting Competition)
Paintings can be created in the physical media. (No photography or digital ‘paintings’)
The participant has to draw and color the painting inspired by any work of art/ literature. (Book, films, web series)
Preferably, the size of paper should be A3 (297 x 420 mm or 11.7 x 16.5 inches) and the acceptable media would include: oil pastel, watercolor, crayons, acrylic, etc. The participant can select other size paper and media also.
The painting should be the product of the participant’s mental thought. It should be the participant’s own original concept and not the copy of anyone else’s copyrighted material.
How to participate in these events?
The participant shall submit the painting in soft copy (jpeg format) by 22 December 2020. The submission details will be provided on this link.
The Online Submission Form link will be available on this website also for final submission.
All the entries shall be made available in Virtual Gallery for Public Display and Public Voting.
The participants shall try to get more votes / ratings for their painting.
Caricature Creating
Caricatures of characters can be created in the physical media as well as digital media also. We are considering both media as an acceptable media for this particular competition. Try to make the best use of Jamboard (a free application available from Google). The slideshow of all the entries will be presented on google meet platform. The participant can come online and say 2-3 lines on his/her work on Google Meet. (Link will be shared on blog)
Poetry Contest
Poetry can be written in any poetic style and on any subject.
A poem in its entirety must be an original work of the participant.
Language of the poem accepted is - English, Hindi and Gujarati
Do not use “texting” lingo. Properly spell out all words and numbers.
Consider poetic technique, effectiveness, style, and creativity to make your work an exceptional.
This competition will be recorded and streamed LIVE, the participants are requested to keep their Camera ON.

All registered participants will have to submit the hard copy of their poetry to the department after the university reopens. (So preserve your work)
The Google Meet Link will be shared on blog with specific date and time.
Narrative Art Contest (Storytelling Contest)
Give expression to any author’s words by exhibiting your art of narrating a story.
Select any short story and narrate in your tone!
This storytelling contest will be held on Google Meet. (The event will be live, so prepare well)
The presentation of story must be delivered using English, Hindi or Gujarati Language.
Contestants will have 5 to 7 minutes or maximum 10 minutes for the presentation of the story. A last minute warning remainder will be given.
Pronunciation, intonation accuracy and manner of storytelling (attitude) are the perimeters to be focused.
Participants must commit to be on time and follow the schedule.
This competition will be recorded and streamed LIVE, the participants are requested to keep their Camera ON.

Open Mic (elocution Competition)
The speech may not exceed 5 minutes in duration. The time limit will be strictly enforced. A minute second warning remainder will be given.
Clarity of message, Originality as well as Points of interest- the perimeters to be focused.
This elocution competition will be held via Google Meet. (The event will be live, so prepare well)
The topics for this competition will be mentioned two days prior to the event on blog link. Content must be relevant to the given subjects.
Language for Elocution can be English, Gujarati or Hindi. Participants must commit to be on time and follow the schedule.
This competition will be recorded and streamed LIVE, the participants are requested to keep their Camera ON.

Mobile Photography
Only one entry is allowed per photographer. The photograph must be captured by mobile only.
The photograph must be original and no watermark of any kind on the photograph is allowed.
The photograph must be of the highest resolution possible.
It can be in Landscape/Portrait mode.
A caption must be given for the photograph.

Online Quiz
The Quiz will be online on Kahoot Platform and will be recorded online via Google Meet.
The participants are requested to keep their camera on while appearing in the quiz
Please find a proper internet connection area.
The questions in the quiz will be from the area of English Literature.
The Quiz competition will be conducted on any day so prepare well.

Monologue Performance
The participants can shoot a video from their home on any character’s monologue or dialogue they like from any literature.
The video shall be uploaded on the drive / YouTube and links are to be submitted to the google form by 24 December 2020. (the link of the google form will be shared)
The time for one performance will be max. 10 minutes.
All the videos will be compiled and will be streamed live.

Online Debate
This is a group event. 2-3 participants in one group. The Students are requested to read thoroughly on the given topics prior to the event and present their views in a systematic manner in the live debate.
The participants are requested to keep their camera ON because the event will be recorded.
The teams will be given 3 minutes to present their observation.
The opposing team will be given 3 minutes to present and counter the observation made by the first team.
The main debate will be given 8 minutes for arguments and the counter arguments.
The participants are requested to maintain the decorum and allow the counter points from both the teams to be heard equally well.

Rangoli
Rangoli art can be of any size exceeding 2 ft x 2 ft.
Theme of Rangoli will be posted on the blog.
There will be only one round of competition.
Maximum time to complete the Rangoli is two hours.
Participant will be responsible for arrangement of the material required to prepare Rangoli.
Multiple entries by one person are not allowed.
The participants are requested to keep their camera ON while the competition starts and ends because the event will be recorded.
Judging will be based on the following Criteria-
Overall Appearance and appeal
Details and Clarity in Rangoli art.
Color combination.
Creativity.

Create your own Microfiction
Microfiction is a genre of literature which consists of "Few words, big story."
In this column participants are requested to write their own micro fiction and submit their original work.
Title for Microfiction is mandatory.
Word Limit for Microfiction is between 50 to 70 words. Beyond word limit work will not be accepted.
Keep your story as precise as you can.
Participants are requested to send their work in either in Google Doc form or either in Word File.
Participants can write their Microfiction any of three languages like English, Hindi or Gujarati.
Participants are requested to use proper signs and Symbol to pass clear message.
Correct usage question mark, exclamation point, comma, semicolon, colon, dash, hyphen, parentheses, brackets, braces, apostrophe, quotation marks, and ellipsis etc. will make your work easier and appalling.
