Research Question
How might we design Marvel movie posters to reflect the narrative and characters of the movies?
Project Overview
I and many other designers who are also marvel movie fans have noticed that the posters Marvel has been producing are becoming “cookie cutter” and only showcase the big names of the movies rather than the narrative and characters. With this project I chose the movie posters that most people view as the “worst” designs among all the Marvel posters and redesigned them in my style to give a fresh new look at what these posters could look like if the designer focuses on the narrative and characters of the story.
Experience Design / Poster Design / Brochure Design
My audience is designers who like watching MCU movies who believe there are other ways to design Marvel movie posters that reflect the narrative and characters of the movies rather than just showing the faces of the actors who are a part of the movies.
I analyzed the movies to find out what the overall narrative is
I researched what most designers want to see in a MCU movie poster
I decided upon a specific style that I am comfortable with and that I can incorporate into all of my components
I sketched out ideas of compositions for my posters
I went through the process of critiques with other designers to find the best compositions for my posters
Created 6 MCU movie posters that display the narrative and characters of the movies rather than the celebrities that are in the movies
Created a brochure that summarizes the plot and narrative of the movies
Developed 6 movies tickets that correspond with each movie to give it more of an experience design
I designed the following components as part of my solution:
6 MCU movie posters
6 ticket designs
A book that summarizes the plot and narrative of each movie to help distinguish between the posters and movies
After my design process, for my solution to be a success, I know it needs to:
Analyze the movies to distinguish the narrative elements
Explore alternative ways to create posters that incorporate narrative and character
Make an artifact that summarizes the movies to help the audience distinguish the movies
Utilize vectors to convey a more “abstract” representation of the movies
Make it more of an experience design
After careful research, I chose to include certain characters based off of their screen time in each movie and their involvement in each scene of each movie.
I carefully chose each of my compositions for my posters to showcase events that happen in each movie.
The brochure that I made summarizes each Marvel movie to help my audience distinguish between each of the movies I created posters for and the ones I did not.
I crafted my posters to look a certain way and look like they were illustrated.
By creating tickets, I wanted to give the feeling of going to watch one of the Marvel movies and receiving a ticket that corresponds with each movie.
