Research Question
How might we assist those facing menstruation issues to live with their cycles during all times of the month, log symptoms for easy reporting to their provider, become self-aware, and embrace womanhood holistically?
Project Overview
Selene is a multi-component service that enables users to achieve a lifestyle that holistically embraces womanhood. Selene promotes learning about each phase, engaging in activities that work in harmony with each phase, becoming more self-aware, logging symptoms to report to health providers, and connecting with others who identify similarly to the user.
Branding / UI/UX / Service Design
My audience is women who menstruate, but most particularly those that face some sort of period problem whether it be diagnosed or an outlying symptom or more, who want to learn what they can do to embrace the phases of their cycle through their lifestyle. My ideal users are curious and wanting to become more self-aware and view their cycles as a constant factor, not just when their period comes and goes. They are comfortable with technology, specifically apps, and willing to commit to using it daily. Some of my users may be young and just starting to menstruate, but others might be older. Other types of users may not have a female figure in their life who they can go to for these menstrual issues, or they may not know anyone who is going through the same period problems as them.
I investigated existing apps that aim to track periods. There are many solutions, but of those most of the useful features to embrace a lifestyle that considers all phases of your cycle require a monetary obligation.
I researched menstrual cycles, problems, and cycle-syncing to create a better understanding of what this service can look like.
I conducted a survey to analyze potential users’ menstrual experiences and their value of the apps that currently exist and potential components that my service will offer.
I analyzed current trends in the visual design of women’s health-related and menstrual related products. I wanted to understand how to brand this service modernly, appropriately, and most importantly uniquely that will stand out.
I researched goddess related to menstruation and femininity. This was to guide my brand name and development.
I developed several rounds of branding and product prototypes that I evaluated with my classmates and professors. I am also going to conduct user-testing for my products.
