Research Question
How might we make the overall experience at raves/ music festivals more efficient and inclusive to those with any form of disabilities?
Project Overview
Access Wave aims to revolutionize accessibility at music festivals and raves nationwide. Through an innovative app offering customizable modes for various disabilities, a vibrating stage for the hearing-impaired, soundproof tents for sensory regulation, wheelchair-friendly kiosks, and comprehensive staff training, Access Wave ensures inclusivity for all attendees.
Service Design / Experience Design / Accessible Design
The audience for Access Wave includes music festival and rave organizers seeking to enhance inclusivity, attendees with disabilities, and organizations advocating for accessibility rights. Additionally, venue owners and event management teams looking to create more inclusive environments are also part of our target audience. Access Wave aims to serve as a bridge, connecting these stakeholders to ensure everyone can fully participate in live music experiences.
Talked to people both with and without disabilities that often go to raves and or music festivals for their experience
Did personal online extensive research on accessibility challenges faced by people with disabilities at music festivals and raves
Created experience maps to identify pain points and opportunities for improvement
Looked at current layouts for different festivals
Came up with ideas for solutions based off research and ran it by the people with disabilities that I interviewed
Came up with several rounds of interactions for best possible design
I designed the following components as part of my solution:
Vibration Stage
Sensory Sanctuary
Access Wave Company
Access friendly kiosk
After my design process, for my solution to be a success, I know it needs to:
Ensure that all areas of the festival venue, are accessible to individuals with mobility impairment
Offer personalized assistance services for individuals with disabilities
Offer assistive technology solutions
Provide awareness for festival staff
By including signages, ramps and stairs when needed, having spaces for people with any forms of disabilities to go for any needs such as self regulating when overstimulated, and having staff fully educated and equipped to help at all times.
By having staff members that are dedicated solely to assisting people with any form of disabilities.
Having the apps that are featured have an option for to become more adaptable for people with sight disabilities. Also having features such as electric wheelchair charging.
Provide mandatory training for staff that is informative about what to do and ways to help.
