By the end of July 2025, we received 100 responses to our informal survey on the proposed Underhill CPZ.
97% of respondents were against the Underhill South CPZ proposal.
Only 3% were in favour.
None took a neutral position.
We got responses from 40 different EN5 postcode areas and this result is consistent with research carried out by the Quinta Village Green Residents Association and with the outcome of the community meeting on 22 July, attended by about 200 residents.
Respondents told us why they were in favour or opposed to restrictions in their own words. The survey data shows strong opposition to the CPZ proposal, with a significant majority saying that it simply isn’t needed. There is also another significant chunk of respondents who say that it’s just a money-making exercise or a financial burden.
Responses include:
“I can confidently say that parking on our road has not posed any significant issue for residents or visitors. There is no observable pattern of congestion, obstruction, or non-resident vehicle dominance that would justify such a measure.”
“I am against the proposed CPZ as it is effectively another tax on car ownership - I don't see any benefits. I doubt if many people are really asking for a CPZ. It will cause stress and inconvenience. We don't have a parking problem in our road.”
“Makes life difficult for no good reason.”
The hospital was mentioned 20 times and the word ‘unnecessary’ came up 18 times,
Some mentioned the negative impact that it would have on the community, businesses, schools or other institutions. Other concerns included that a CPZ would make it difficult for friends, family, the elderly, carers and other visitors to the area.
There was also mention of it being mainly local parking in the area, that the scheme would further displace parking, and that it would otherwise inconvenience residents or not benefit them.
Even the small minority of people who are in favour of the CPZ largely acknowledge that it is just pushing a problem down the road or down to lack of engagement with the hospital.
