Barnet Council claim that consultation letters were hand delivered to residents of Cedar Lawn Avenue and have bizarrely told residents who didn't get them that it was because of issues accessing their homes. These officials clearly haven't visited this particular road, as there are no obstructions to people's doorways. They further claimed that, because some people from the road had responded to the consultation, that they will have received the letters. This ignores the fact that some residents may have found out through unofficial channels such as NextDoor or other street communications.
This is a selection of what residents of Cedar Lawn Avenue have told us:
"I am a resident in Cedar Lawn Avenue and did not receive the formal CPZ Consultation Letter and am not aware of anyone in the road receiving it either. The only conclusion I can come to is that this was a deliberate act to push the scheme through with the excuse that there were very few objections. This is scandalous behaviour and is not to be tolerated. For the record there are absolutely no parking problems at all on the road - it is nowhere near the station or the hospital and will simply result in available parking spaces reducing by far in excess of 50% - where are the residents supposed to park?"
"We did NOT receive any letter, nor did anyone on this street. There is no issue accessing my property, you literally walk on the driveway and pop it in the letterbox? Does that mean the distributor had an issue with every property on Cedar Lawn?"
"I am a resident of Cedar Lawn Avenue, and I have been made aware that there are plans to implement a parking control zone in my road. The only reason I know this is due to neighbours and local groups being in contact. I am extremely disappointed not to have had any formal letter of consultation from Barnet Council inviting me or my son to give feedback on this proposal and believe that this negates the notion of consultation before a decision is made as my views would remain unheard."
"As of 8th July, no residents on our street — nor local businesses on Mays Lane — have received any formal notification about this consultation, despite it having already started on 7th July and being scheduled to close on 28th July. A 21-day window is simply not sufficient when so many of those affected remain completely unaware of the proposals."
"I live at [redacted] Cedar Lawn Avenue and did not receive the formal CPZ consultation letter from Barnet Council. Following the evening meeting with the council’s parking team representatives it was clear that the majority of residents attending also did not receive this letter. No response was given for this at the meeting from the parking team which leads me to believe it was either a rushed consultation process or to reduce views from a wider resident participation."
In our representation to Barnet Council we outlined that if only select streets have been granted an extension, this represents procedural unfairness. We further stated that all consultees must be treated equally to ensure the legitimacy of the process.
