Preliminary survey findings, 20 July 2025
As at 20 July, some two weeks after the informal survey started, more than 95% of respondents to the Underhill Residents Group survey on the proposed Underhill South CPZ have expressed opposition to it. This is based on data from more than 35 different postcodes in the area.
Respondents told us why they were in favour or opposed to restrictions in their own words and the following are the key themes emerging from what people are telling us:
About three-quarters of those who have responded so far tell us either that there is no need for restrictions or no parking issue.
About half of those who gave a view said that they thought it was about money-making, an unfair cost, financial burden or a tax on car ownership.
Some mentioned the negative impact that it would have on the community, businesses, schools or other institutions. Other concerns included that a CPZ would make it difficult for friends, family, the elderly, carers and other visitors to the area.
Some mentioned that it was mainly local parking in the area, that the scheme would further displace parking, and that it would otherwise inconvenience residents or not benefit them.
Comments included that respondents lived in small, no-through residential roads or not near anything that warrants such an intervention.
Even the small minority of people who are in favour of the CPZ largely acknowledge that it is just pushing a problem down the road or down to lack of engagement with the hospital.
