Primary / Metastatic Nonresectable MSK Tumors
Effective only for vascular tumors (RCC mets most common)
Prior to Ortho fixation of pathologic fractures (to reduce blood loss)
Palliative
Relative:
Uncorrectable bleeding diathesis
Contrast allergy (premedicate, as time allows)
Renal impairment
Hypovascular tumors
CTA typically requested to:
Localize arterial territory for embolization, as well as possible collaterals that require interrogation.
Evaluate options for access.
Same general considerations as any angio/embo procedure.
Pre-op antibiotics to prevent soft tissue necrosis à sepsis
Consent: Risk of non-target embolization, vessel injury, infection, pain, contrast nephropathy, access site complications
