Indications

• Primary / Metastatic Nonresectable MSK Tumors

  • • Effective only for vascular tumors (RCC mets most common)

    • Prior to Ortho fixation of pathologic fractures (to reduce blood loss)

    • Palliative

Contraindications

• Relative:

  • • Uncorrectable bleeding diathesis

    • Contrast allergy (premedicate, as time allows)

    • Renal impairment

    • Hypovascular tumors

Imaging Review

• CTA typically requested to:

  • • Localize arterial territory for embolization, as well as possible collaterals that require interrogation.

    • Evaluate options for access.

Tips for Workup

• Same general considerations as any angio/embo procedure.

• Pre-op antibiotics to prevent soft tissue necrosis à sepsis

• Consent: Risk of non-target embolization, vessel injury, infection, pain, contrast nephropathy, access site complications
