Students (graduated)
Leran Wang (2023-2024), UVA Biology undergraduate student. During his training with us, Leran co-authored several research manuscripts/papers and conference abstracts. He learned multiple cheminformatics and bioinformatics such as molecular docking and next-generation sequencing as well as molecular and cellular biology techniques. He was on University's Dean's List for students demonstrating superior academic achievement. read more
Anna Bookstaver (2022-2024), UVA chemistry undergraduate student. During her training with us, Anna learned multiple techniques such as flow cytometry, qPCR, and drug-resistant cell generation. She co-authored a research paper published in Epigenetics & Chromatin and featured by ScienceCast. She was also a co-first author on a review paper. Anna obtained the prestigious Gerald Bass Scholarship for the top undergraduate Chemistry student at UVA and a job offer at Vanda Pharmaceuticals before graduation read more
Natalie Segovia (2023-2024), UVA Chemistry undergraduate student. During her training, Natalie mastered animal husbandry and PCR genotyping techniques. She contributed to our studies utilizing an inducible knockout mouse model. She is a co-authored a research manuscript on Bioarchive and under journal revision. Natalie obtained job offer at a clinical department at UVA before graduation.
Miguel Fuentes (2021-2023), Undergraduate student : Miguel was co-mentored by Drs. Trinh and Tenen at Harvard. He obtained two fellowships and spent his sophomore and junior summers conducting undergraduate thesis research under the direct supervision of Dr. Trinh. Internship/short-term/volunteering
Vicky Singh, Alanna Hazlett, and David Baisas (2025), Graduate students of UVA Data Science Capstone Program. The trio continued to fine‑tune our virtual screening pipeline and developed a related software package for users without a computational background. Stay tuned for more!
Dei Figueroa (2025), High school student, Dei joined our lab as a SOAR scholar for a one-week research program, during which she gained a foundational understanding of manipulating gene activity using CRISPR, ASOs, and cheminformatics code.
Kevin Qiu (2023-2024), UVA Medical student. During his training with us, Kevin published a first-author paper, first-authored and coauthored and several scientific presentations, and won a poster award. read more
Dedra Dadzie (2024-2025), Undergrad student, UVA Chemical Engineering. Dedra volunteered in our lab during her free time, where she learnt about cancer drug engineering.

Minh Tran (2024), Summer intern, volunteer, Brown University. During his first lab experience training, Minh mastered RT-qPCR and became proficient in culturing leukemia cells. Andrew Pan (2024), Andrew volunteered our lab for more than 3 months and gained computational and experimental research. He coauthored an accepted abstract for AACR 2025 annual meeting and a research manuscript on Bioarchive and under journal revision
Duc Vu (2023), third-year undergrad student majoring in Cellular And Molecular Biology and a minor in Data science, DePauw University, Greencastle, IN. In the Trinh lab, he participated in our research with noncoding RNA knockdown and a gene-specific epigenetic project, be a second-author on a research paper. read more
Ellie Ober (2023), B.S. candidate in Biological Sciences and a B.A. candidate in Sociology, University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Ellie joined our lab through the Summer Research Internship Program (SRIP) and Leadership Alliance's Summer Research-Early Identification Program at UVA. In our lab, she studies cancer drug and immune responses. Emilia Korczmar (2023), Visiting graduate student. Four months in the Trinh lab, she learnt CRIPSR activation, noncoding RNA knockdown by ASOs, contributed to research projects and obtained a co-first author review paper and contributed to a developing research projects.
Victoria Phan (2023), Undergraduate student, University of Virginia. Vicky joined our lab for first research lab experience. She learned molecular and cell culture techniques, and participated in our ongoing research projects investigating cancer drug responses.
Jenna Sleiman (2023-2024), UVA Biology undergraduate student. Jenna participated in cancer drug-resistant projects and learned skills in cell isolation and culture as well as cell growth measurement.
Yaning Li, MSc (2023), BIMS rotation student, investigates the role of myeloid genes in regulation of noncoding RNAs using inducible knockout mouse models, contributed to a developing research manuscript under journal revision. read more

Staff
Barbara Dziegielewska, Research Specialist (2023-2025). During her time with us, Barbara was involved in several research projects in gene regulations and therapeutic development. She mastered molecular cloning and demonstrated efficiency in animal protocol writing. She co‑authored a research manuscript currently under revision for a prominent journal and contributed as a co‑author to a poster presentation.
Satish had to return to India to take care of a family emergency. During his time with us, which spanned more than a month, he had the opportunity to learn and contribute to our research on gene regulation in leukemia and innate immunology. Research Specialist(2024).

Jamie Solis, Research Technician (2023): During her 6-month gap year training after completing her undergraduate studies at Mary Baldwin University, Jamie gained considerable experience in our lab. She worked with inducible knockout mouse models, CRISPR screening, blood cell isolation techniques, and acquired valuable lab management skills.
Danielle Llaneza, Lab specialist (2022-2023): Danelle did a good job assisting Dr. Trinh with lab setup and participated in multiple research projects involving inducible knockout mouse models, CRISPR screening, and investigations into cancer drug resistance.
