Low Dose Naltrexone

Naltrexone is an FDA-approved opiate antagonist typically used to wean alcoholics and drug users off addictive substances. In a low dose it can help normalize and even boost the immune system, which is beneficial for those with cancer, autoimmune diseases, HIV/AIDS, chronic infections, and CNS disorders.

The drug can be compounded (local or mail order pharmacies) to fit an individual patient's needs at various pharmacies, with a one-month supply of 4.5 mg dose typically costing under $50.00.

It is important when requesting the medication that you specify that it is not compounded in a slow release (or time-released) formula. The use of calcium carbonate as a filler in the capsules can interfere with naltrexone absorption. Fillers, such as avicel, lactose (if not lactose intolerant) or sucrose, can be substituted.

Low dose naltrexone has no known side effects; however, some people may have difficulty sleeping (short-lived) immediately after starting the medication.
