Kichili Samba Pongal

Kichili Samba Rice - 1 cup.
Moongdal / Paasi Paruppu- 1/2 cup.
Water - 5 cups.
Ghee - 6 tbsp.
Cumin Seeds - 1.5 tsp.
Whole Pepper - 1.5 tsp.
Ginger - 1.5 inch (chopped)
Curry leaves - few
Cashews - 10.
Wash Kichili Samba Rice and Moong dal / Paasi paruppu and drain.
Soak for 2 hrs in 5 cups of water.
Pressure cook the Rice and Moong dal / Paasi paruppu as it is, for 5 - 6 whistles, after adding 2 cups water into cooker.
Saute cashews in ghee till light brown,then add cumin seeds,whole pepper, ginger and curry leaves and saute for a few secs.
Smoothen Venpongal to desired consistency. Add salt for taste.
Temper with ingredients from 5, mix well and serve hot.
Serve with Sambar or coconut chutney or tomato Gothsu.
Salt is to be added after Venpongal is cooked.
If you are using rock salt dissolve before mixing.
