Sprint 3

October 31st - November 4th

Systems Thinking

GREAT systems are intricate, interdependent, complicated & complex…disruptive! We realize the strength of each piece ebbs and flows…& “if a part is weak, the responsibility of the either parts is not only to “fill in the gaps” but to make the weak part strong again”

Sprint 3 Launch - Deliver Your Survival Solution Pitch

This sprint is a bit more open and flexible to prepare for prototype pitches to experts by the end of the cycle.

Everything needed in this slidedeck

Survival Solution Prototype Pitch Sessions

Day 1: Storyboard Alternative Solutions

Inspiration Board Focus

An area students are struggling with is the research component of identifying ideas that already exist around their problem/solution. Helping them to learn how to explore other industries and look beyond NASA to discover who is doing this work and how they are doing this work is important. Today the focus resides on finding present day examples so they can refine their ideas, gather sparks for new thoughts, and begin to see how their idea is different from the rest OR if not, then how to modify their idea into something new.

Day 3: Practice and Record

Day 4: Storyboard Pitch Peer Feedback

Peer feedback is vital when preparing for our prototype pitches to the experts. We want to showcase the knowledge we’ve gained and be the professionals we know we are.

Day 5: Expert Storyboard Pitch Feedback

09:54 - How can we communicate from ISS to Mars without it taking 14 minutes and 6 seconds?

20:35 - How to properly insulate a battery for extreme conditions on Moon?

27:38 - How can we design a storage unit that transports energy efficiently across the Moon?

37:44 - How can provide an environment for a variety of fruits and veggies that not only are full of flavor and healthy, but remind them of Earth?

45:47 - How do we treat/cure depression from being isolated on the Moon?

55:17 - Astronauts may not be be able to feel the way they want to feel because they can't control the light.

01:03:45 - How can a pet provide comfort and companionship to create a stable mindset?

01:10:00 - How can we create a device to help improve sleep and keep astronauts in their best mental state?

01:15:56 - How do we maintain bone density besides working out?

01:22:45 - What happens if a rover runs out of power mid trip on the moon?

01:29:00 - How can we obtain the water in our possession efficiently?

Peer feedback is vital when preparing for our prototype pitches to the experts. We want to showcase the knowledge we’ve gained and be the professionals we know we are.

Kids get it…they see the VALUE in thinking differently…describing it as DISRUPTIVE and causing DISCOMFORT…understanding how this leads to CHANGE…kids see WHY human systems can be tough…our conditions, experiences, values/beliefs can impact and influence outcomes…
