An amazing show, with gorgeous visual effects. The books are a bit like the Dune series, highly imaginative and ahead of their time. So I’m glad they waited long enough to adapt it properly, the show really outdid expectations.
The show is more or less a one to one adaptation of the first 2 books, but made a few key changes to the story. Not that I’m complaining. Those changes were necessary to give the story a new feel better suited to our time.
However, I do feel that if you are a completely new viewer going in with no prior knowledge or expectations, you will be quite weirded out by the story. It often shifts from being character driven to plot driven, and just has a unique vibe overall.
The first 4 episodes were LITERALLY perfect, being captivating and interesting. 5 and 6 seemed a bit strange, and the last 4 were all pretty good and wrapped up the season pretty well.
Overall, you won’t like this show if you’re looking for something with a lot of grand stuff. The Sandman is a visually pleasing show that wants you to appreciate all the tiny details and nuances in the visuals and the story.
