I actually thought it was ok at first. It’s about Kevin Hart being a boring stay at home dad, and then going on a journey of growth and self realization with Mark Wahlberg. The story seemed lighthearted, and the jokes were pretty funny. But then I realized something.
Central Intelligence (2016) is about Kevin Hart growing up to be a boring accountant, after which he gets caught up in The Rock’s FBI stuff and rediscovers his love for adventure. The Man from Toronto (2022) is about Kevin Hart teaming up with Woody Harelson to do adventure stuff. See a pattern?
The jokes are different, but the movie was the same thing. Once I saw that, the complete lack of originality ruined it for me. It was just a boring repeat. If you want to watch this for time pass, Kevin Hart’s way of acting, or the jokes, go for it. You’ll probably like it.
I have to admit, it did get a bit funny at times. The trailer revealed everything, sure, but still. Other than that, there isn’t much to say about this movie. It’s pretty plain. You either like it or you don’t. If you're like me though, you mostly won’t like it.
