I went into this movie without any kind of expectations. I was quite pleased by it. It’s a very imaginative and enjoyable action sci-fi movie. The time travel rules are a bit wonky, but the movie was great nevertheless.
The movie is set connecting 2044 and 2071. In 2071, it’s really hard to get rid of crime evidence. So people are sent back in time to 2044, where a hitman, known as a Looper, gets rid of them. The protagonist, Joe, is one such Looper. The story is about a mishap that takes place when Joe’s future self is sent back to Joe.
The movie takes a pretty straightforward premise and creates a very elaborate world. I liked the different things they introduced us to in the movie, like the technology and the characters. The time travel rules are interesting and similar to those of Back to the Future. There were a lot of plot holes with the time travel, though.
The plot is definitely entertaining and interesting. There isn’t much to the film other than the action, which was done well. The acting wasn’t amazing or anything, but that’s only because, like in any action movie, there wasn’t a requirement. Although I refuse to pass off Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a young Bruce Willis. Don’t buy it.
Overall, there isn’t much else to it. The movie followed pretty much all the basic conventions of an action film when it came to acting, cinematography, and music. The plot was very unique, though. The story was well developed and intrigued me without ever giving away too many details or revealing where the story was headed.
