Disclaimer: DiCaprio is my all time favorite actor, no joke. I love Quentin Tarantino too. So of course, I may be a bit biased. I’ll try my best to be unbiased though.
An amazing and entertaining movie from start to finish. It’s an alternate history movie, set in the 1960s. Essentially a group of hippies killed a family in 1969 in a pretty brutal manner. This is Tarantino’s alternate version of this event, the Tate-LaBianca Murders.
I absolutely loved it. You’d think the movie would be serious from what I told you, but it’s not. It’s a movie that touches many genres, including comedy and drama. It revolves around Rick Dalton (DiCaprio), an actor who used to be famous, and his stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt).
It’s a very unique movie in terms of its plot. It has nothing to do with its real life inspiration, that’s for sure. In fact, the majority of the plot is completely fictional, and is about Rick’s journey through movies as an insecure and outdated actor.
I LOVE the characters in this movie. They’re all so classy and fit into the movie and the era. And the acting. Oof. Extra props to DiCaprio (as usual but still). It’s really challenging for a skilled actor to play an actor who is talented but insecure. Even Brad Pitt’s and Margot Robbie’s acting is great.
The movie spends most of its time feeling like the plot isn’t exactly leading up to any final confrontation. And then everything they showed comes together in the resolution. So if you go in expecting it to be very plot driven and serious, you will be disappointed.
This is a relaxing, enjoyable movie that isn’t plot driven, but isn’t time-pass either. It’s a classy 1960 movie that is often humorous, but also quite deep and thoughtful. I loved it. It’s a movie I can always rewatch. Check it out.
