A unique and exciting show. Season 1 was deservingly popular during lockdown for keeping us entertained with an outlandish plot and gore. I don’t think I need to say much about that, except that I liked the way the show created a feeling of being thrown into a very different and strange world and seeing what desperate people can turn into. Season 2 was released after quite a wait and hasn’t quite stirred up as much dust as the first one. Nevertheless, it was a good carry forward of the story and succeeds more in setting up an eventful third season.
Seong Gi-Hun took part in the first season of Squid Game and decides to seek revenge for what the secret organization did. With that in mind, he re-enters the games to try beat the system from within. But the organization has its own plans, and the story goes on from there with more games and more internal struggles as Gi-Hun rallies support to break the system.
This season has a feeling of déjà vu, where it feels like Gi-Hun has a similar struggle to survive, but things keep going differently compared to before. There's also a lot more insight into the story from the perspective of the people managing the Squid Games, which was an interesting storyline. While that was done pretty well, it is worth mentioning that this season overall has a more positive outlook on people than the first. While season 1 is more about how people in bad situations can also start becoming bad, this season tried to show more light on how good can still survive in such places.
As a person who hasn’t seen much Korean dramas, I felt the style of acting and showing strong emotions and facial expressions was like the acting in Indian movies. I’m not complaining, I just found it easier to adjust to the acting, music, and cinematography. The story itself progressed rather quickly, but didn’t feel as dramatic as it could have. This season focused more on an energetic and positive storyline. The season ended well, setting up expectations for the third and final season.
Overall, not much else to say about the show. Season 2 focused less on the games themselves due to them being predictable, and the plot armor was disappointing. Only the season finale changed it up with more unexpected events and a good setup for the next season.
