Desert Farming is the livelihood of growing Crops from Seeds in the Sunswept Wastes.
Farming is hard work, between the harsh weather, maintaining fields, and making sure planted Seeds are watered, weeded, and aren't being eaten by pests. Water is hard to come by in a desert, especially the Sunswept Wastes, so irrigation and maintaining moisture and fertile soil is an ongoing battle!
So! You have arrived to Solara Veil and are thinking about starting your very own Desert Farm.
If so that's the case, then you'll need to claim a Property, since the Town is just giving them away to any person who intends to remain in Town. Once you have an Address, you'll need to visit the Architectural Guild in order to commission them to come to your Property and build up the necessary infrastructure for your Farm.
A Farm Commission costs 10 Coins, which may sound like a lot, but have no fear! You can earn those 10 Coins via Submissions!
Farmers specialize in EITHER Berries or Produce and therefore can sell their Crops at a higher price
Farmers can own a variety of Crops and sell their Crops at Market Value
April- September
The Dry Season Produce found in Solara Veil have been specifically chosen and bred to flourish under the relentless sun and heat of the Sunswept Wastes. They still require water, but not as much as their Rainy Season counterparts.
Exotic Dry Season Seeds may be found by Adventurers, but would require a Raised Garden Bed to grow.
All Year
The majority of Berries found in Solara Veil have been specifically chosen and bred to survive the harsh desert environment of the Sunswept Wastes. Berries have a variety of uses and can be used and crushed in order to made other Products, such as Jams, and Juice.
Exotic Berry Seeds may be found by adventurers, but would require a Raised Garden Bed to grow.
October - March
The Rainy Season Produce found in Solara Veil have been specifically chosen and bred to flourish under the increased rain and colder nights of the Sunswept Wastes. They still require water, but less than their Dry Season counterparts.
Exotic Rainy Season Seeds may be found by Adventurers, but would require a Raised Garden Bed to grow.
Operated and owned by the Town, the Sunstone Moisture Farm provides food for many Solarans by utilizing agricultural technology that harnesses the desert's sparse moisture. It is here that Farmers can buy their Seeds from un bulk for the upcoming season.
Once planted, and with water and sunshine, Fruits & Vegetables, Herbs and Berries will begin to grow! That's great! Now what? Well, Farmers are pretty busy folks and have a lot to do, so they just can't sit and watch their newly planted Crops sprout and grow.
Time is money, so the quicker that a Crop grows, the quicker a Farmer can sell the fresh Crops for Coins. However, different Crops naturally grow at different speeds, and the different seasons, Rainy or Dry, also matter. There are ways that a Farmer can assist their Crops to make them grow faster, but that costs Coins too.
Buying Fertilizer from the General Store will certainly speed up Crops growth rates, which comes in handy because once the season changes, all Crops from the previous season die and new Seeds will need to be purchased!
Farmers have to spend Coins to earn Coins so that they can spend some more! So get planting to get paid!
3 weeks until ready for harvest
2 weeks until ready for harvest
1 week until ready for harvest
Note Fertilizer reduces the wait time for harvesting depending on the quality
However! Keep in mind that Fertilizer will degrade over time!
Check the General Store for their selection of fertilizers
The amount of Crops you harvest depends on the Soil you use.
Default Soil. Doesn't have any benefits.
A chance of receiving 1.25x harvest.
A chance of receiving 1.5x harvest.
Guarentee 1.5x harvest.
Note Higher quality soil increases the crop yield.
However! Keep in mind that soil quality WILL NOT carry over harvest-to-harvest EXCEPT for Crops that regrow automatically
Note Farmers can add better soil either before planting or after planting -as long as the Crops are not mature
Check the General Store for their selection of soils
A Farmer Purchasing some Seeds from the Store
Keep in mind which Season it is (Rainy or Dry) and when the Season ends! Once a Season has ended, all remaining unharvested Crops will die and new Seeds will need t be Purchased! Refer to here to see how long the Seasons last for.
Depending on the growth speed, the Farmer would have to wait until the Crops are ready for harvest.
On your profile, in Produce and Berry Tracker, there is a section indicating when and whether the crops are ready to be harvested.
Purchasing and adding Fertilizer and Soil to any Crop will speed up its growth and/or increase harvest yield.
This should be done via the Submit Mail channel on Discord as a Purchase.
A member sends a Submission Form via the drop-down menu found in the Submit Mail channel on the Discord server to Harvest their Crops.
This will open a pop-up form to fill out.
In the form, the member must provide the following information:

The Submission of the crop being harvested - Clearly state if different Crops have been depicted in the same Submission
State if your Farmer owns any equipment or Draft Companions (mods can see this, but mentioning this info makes things easier)
Provide a link to your Storage. Make sure the link is clickable!
Once the form is complete, click the Submit button. This will create a Private Mail channel with the information that you have provided.
Wait for a mod to review your request and confirm your character's Harvest. Once you get that confirmation, congratulations! Your Farmer has Harvested their Crops! The number of Harvested Crops will be randomized and placed into your character's Storage. Hopefully, your Farm hasn't been affected by any Damage or Hazards!
What's the difference between Farmers and Hired Help? Well, Farmers are the Solarans who pay for the Renovations and Equipment and Hired Help are the ones who... work! To be Hired Help is for the Solarans who want to do the daily work, without any of the fuss of managing or up-keeping a Farm.
However! The more Hired Help a Farm has, the more Coins earned for all those involved! Hard work and supporting Solara Veil's growing workforce does pay off!
For more information, see the Hired Help & Business Employees page!
Let's face it, life is hard and unpredictable! Especially when one lives in the Sunswept Wastes! With hazards everywhere and can occur at anytime, it's important to upgrade your farm so your character can be better prepared. Not only can some of these upgrades help prevent disasters though, but some can also provide in extra coin with submissions as well! Remember that Farm Hazards are hazards that effect both their porperty/land and their crops as well!
These upgrades can either be Drafts that help prevent certain hazards can be bought at the Desert Bloom Ranch or equipment provided by the Architectural Guild.
