Draft Pokémon are Pokémon that are specially trained to help out with an Altermew's Occupation, Property, Ranch, or Farm. Each Draft Companion has their own advantages and tasks that the Pokémon can prevent for potential Hazard & Weather events that can occur to your character.
To get a Draft Companion though, one would need to buy them from the Desert Bloom Ranch.
Please note that all Pokémon sold by the Desert Bloom Ranch are in their youngest/first evolutions. They must be trained by their new owners to evolve and efficiently work.
Note Depictions of Pokémon must be recognizable - regardless of personal art style!
Good questions!
Drafts can effectively prevent the damage caused by certain Hazards and/or Weather conditions!
In fact, some Drafts can actually get you extra Coins with your Submissions!!
However, not every Solaran may be a good fit for certain types of Draft Pokémon. Some Drafts are only Purchasable by Farmers, Ranchers or Business folks!.
However, there are some Draft Pokémon that are available to everyone!
Drafts can work in 2 different locations: your home or your occupation. Some Drafts are suitable for both locations.
These drafts live in your home and benefit everyone who lives under the same roof.
They only protect you from hazards and weather effects that would damage your home.
These drafts work at the location of your occupation.
They can protect you (and your employees/co-workers) from hazards and weather effects that would damage your location of occupation, but some may offer a different effect, such as extra coins or a discounted renovation.
Note You don't need to own the occupation draft to receive its benefits! As long as someone in your occupation owns one, you may benefit from it.
For submissions with drafts that offer extra coins, the draft must be present as well as the character who owns the draft. Minimum half body with colour for both the draft and the character.
✦ The following Draft options are available for Purchase from the Desert Bloom Ranch.
None of these strike your fancy? Well, good news!
✦ Loyal Companions can be Trained to become Draft Companions by visiting the Pokémon Trainer at the Loyal Steed shop! Head on over there for more details!
✦ Only Farmers and Ranchers can Purchase these Drafts from the Desert Bloom Ranch!
Most of these drafts can work both at home and occupation location (expect for moving heater and walking waterer)
✦ Seeds are expensive and no Farmer wants their young Crops to be eaten by birds, and Ranchers wouldn't want their Livestock to be stressed from pecking; so it would help to have a Cacturne to stand in the field to scare them away. It is the Scarecrow Pokémon, after all, and they seem to enjoy scaring pests away and adore their owners' praise.
Owning a Living Scarecrow would help keep those bird pest numbers down!
✦ Pests like Rattata are attracted to feed for Livestock, while Zigzagoons would have no problem eating your compost fertilizer. By having a Persian on your property, those pesky pests would think twice before bothering your crops. Persians don't make good "lap-cats" and are truly best suited for their work only, though they are very pretty to admire.
Owning a Pest Control Cat would help keep those ground pest numbers down!
✦ Bugs, like Nincada and Nymble, have a knack to get into any building and can wreak havoc on inventory, stored materials, Seeds or Feed. Owning a Carnivine comes in handy, because the predator's appetite is never satiated and it performs its duty with vigour. Despite their fearsome appearance, they bond very well with their owners and are eager to please.
Owning a Bug Catcher can also help prevent the damage caused by bug pest infestations.
✦ The nights of the Sunswept Wastes can be chilly, especially in the Rainy Season, so it would help to have a Magcargo to help out with keeping the Crops protected against potential frostbite and the Livestock warm from the cold. Magcargo stay on their paths and are very capable of controlling their heat so as to not cook potential Produce.
Owning a Moving Heater would help prevent fields from shriveling from the cold!
✦ The sun of the Sunswept Wastes can be harsh, especially in the Dry Season, so it would help to have a Ludicolo to help out with the watering and keeping Livestock cool in the heat. Their dancing can summon a small rain cloud. Besides! Ludicolo's dancing is fun to watch.
Owning a Walking Waterer would help prevent fields from drying out!
✦ Wood is very expensive in the Sunswept Wastes, so all wood is repurposed. Fences will need mending and hay will need to be cut to fit in a Silo to feed Livestock. Cutting down hay and weeds also helps Farmers maintain nutrient-rich soil. Owning a Kleavor can get a lot of work done, in addition to the fact that thieves would think twice of stealing from a Rancher if they see a Kleavor.
Outlaws would think twice about damaging A Ranch if they see a Hay & Wood Cutter!
✦ The larger a Ranch becomes and the more Livestock a Rancher owns it becomes harder to manage all those Pokémon. Owning a hardworking Stoutland can help can Rancher maintain order of their Livestock. Their thick fur help this dog against cold desert nights.
Owning a Herding Dog would help stop Livestock from escaping when a fence is broken!
✦ Anyone working in a business or Town Job can Purchase these Drafts from the Desert Bloom Ranch!
These drafts are occupation only.
✦ It's good business practice to greet customers once they enter a store and owning a Chimecho will definitely assist an employee, especially if they're working by themselves. Chimecho are joyful little things and are sure to bring a happy atmosphere to any Business. Plus they're cute!
Owning a Front Doorbell means +1 Coin per Occupation Submission.
✦ Drawing attention to your Business is just good sales strategy: more customers means more money. Sudowoodo don't exactly move much, unless they get wet or their owner tells them to. Therefore, they're the perfect helper to hold up a Business' sign to draw more attention to it.
Owning a Sturdy Signholder means that your next Business Renovation is Discounted 50%.
✦ The Desert Bloom Ranch does not sell designated Companions under this classification.
✦ However! If a Solaran is willing to put in the work and coordinate with the Pokémon Trainer at the Loyal Steed, then where there's a will, there's a way to achieve these Companions!
Note For Pokémon to qualify to be trained as Adventure Drafts, they need to make sense! Be sure to submit a Design Review Ticket to discuss a potential Pokémon for the role and HOW they'll perform their duties!
✦ Harvester Companions are specifically trained to sniff, scope, or search out hidden Seeds, Berries and maybe even some Produce per Adventure! Some of these can be incredibly rare and highly sought after, which would only help to expand the Town's offerings for the General Store or Sunstone Moisture Farm!
✦ These Companions differ from Loyals because they've been specifically Trained to assist Hunters with Hunting specific kinds of wild Pokémon! Pack Hunters can help track down prey, chase them down, corner them or weaken them - whatever is needed to be done to make the kill!
✦ Pack Hunters can only be Trained to focus on one type of Prey:
Large Game
Small Game
Waterfowl
Upland Birds
Predator Birds
Large Predators
Small Predators
Exotic
Reptiles
Bugs
✦ Any Solaran can Purchase these General Drafts from the Desert Bloom Ranch!
Some Drafts are exclusively used at home, while others can only be used in occupational locations.
Note Draft Companion buffs/benefits DO NOT STACK!
Example) Owning both a Draft Mudsdale AND Chimecho doesn't equate +2 Coins per Submission
Owning a Home Bug Catcher can also help prevent the damage caused by bug pest infestations.
✦ Birds not only go after your homegrown crops and livestock, but they could cause harm to pets and to the house too if there are too many. Owning a Decidueye would keep the air clear of any birds who think of causing any trouble on your property. They tend to work efficiently and solidarily, preferring not to be seen as a pet.
Owning a Home Bird Controller can also help prevent the damage caused by bird pest infestations.
✦ Certain ground pests like zigzagoons or rattata could cause a disturbance by rummaging through your garbage or finding a way into your homes and eat everything in your pantry! Owning a stealthy Liepard would keep the house safe from these destructive intruders. Far from a lap cat, these cats are feisty hunters.
Owning a Home Ground Defender can also help prevent the damage caused by ground pest infestations.
✦ Sandlash is the perfect Draft in assisting both Ranchers and Farmers. Sandslah love to till the earth, creating rows for planting, digging out dikes and ditches to prevent flooding, and ridding the property of large rocks and old stumps. They adore working and even though their claws are sharp, Sandslash can use them quite delicately if they need to.
Owning a Digger Critter can also help prevent the damage caused by flash floods.
✦ The Sunswept Wastes can be a very dangerous region, especially if you consider the number of bandits and thieves that try to make a score when they can. Sometimes even in town. Owning a Shiftry to stand guard and protect a home or a work building is probably a good idea for some peace of mind.
Owning a Protector protects an occupational location or house from bandits.
✦ Fires are dangerous, destructive, and sometimes deadly in the Sunswept Wastes. Owning either a Politoed or and Poliwrath can sure help save property, infrastructure, and even lives because the Fire Brigade can't be multiple places at once. Politoed love their work and Poliwrath fight Fires with a brave ferocity.
Owning a Brigade Trough or a Fire Douser can help prevent the damage caused by a Fire.
✦ Mudsdale are durable and reliable steeds. While they may not be known for their speed, they can carry several people or a lot of weight without sinking into the sands of the Sunswept Wastes. Due to their strength and loyalty, they can be trained to Mounts, Drafts, or Loyal Companions. A Mudsdale can only be trained to be one type of Companion.
Owning a Work Horse increases work efficiency, meaning those who own one earn an extra Coin for their Occupation Submissions.
