The Chocobo companion is a player mount, a battle companion, and a variety of NPC creatures. As a mount and a companion, Chocobo has several pieces of armor that are interchangeable. When summoned as a companion, Chocobo can perform Choco Strike, Choco Guard, Choco Drop, Choco Blast, Choco Rush, Choco Beak, Choco Slash, Choco Medica, Choco Surge, Choco Cure, and Choco Regen.
Chocobo has several technical details that need to be considered when creating a replacement.
Chocobo is classified as a terrestrial creature.
Chocobo has 1 to 1 scaling. Creatures placed on it will be their true size.
Chocobo is not affected by /petsize commands.
Chocobo is unique from other mounts with an extensive list of armor pieces that are interchangeable. When making a replacement, these armor pieces have to all be edited to be invisible.
In addition to being a summoned battle companion, Chocobo is also a mount.
Chocobo is also a creature encountered in many other areas of the game, requiring the use of Penumbra collections to keep the enemy, mount, and companion versions separated.
Mounts have an extensive list of movement animations including flying, swimming, water transitions, etc.
Due to their extensive list of abilities, their status as a mount, various NPCs, and battle companion, I consider Chocobo to be THE MOST intensive and complex creature to edit.
A Chocobo replacement generally involves several basic parts
Model replacement
Skeleton replacement
Binder replacement
Idle Animation replacement
Movement Animation replacement
Player Mount Animation replacement
Spawn Animation, VFX, and SFX replacement
Despawn Animation, VFX, and SFX replacement
Choco Strike Animation, VFX, and SFX replacement
Choco Guard Animation, VFX, and SFX replacement
Choco Kick Animation, VFX, and SFX replacement
Choco Drop Animation, VFX, and SFX replacement
Choco Blast Animation, VFX, and SFX replacement
Choco Rush Animation, VFX, and SFX replacement
Choco Beak Animation, VFX, and SFX replacement
Choco Slash Animation, VFX, and SFX replacement
Choco Medica Animation, VFX, and SFX replacement
Choco Surge Animation, VFX, and SFX replacement
Choco Cure Animation, VFX, and SFX replacement
Choco Regen Animation, VFX, and SFX replacement
In addition to the basic parts of the replacement, there are often other factors to consider that are more advanced edits
Scaling the model, skeleton, animations, and binders.
Automaton Queen does not have attachment settings. So when replacing it with a creature that is supposed to wield a particular weapon, the weapon has to be located and manually attached and weighted to the skeleton to be added to the model.
Some creatures, like Demi-humans, have multiple separate pieces that are combined by the game to give them variety. These parts have to be combined together to use as a replacement.
When thinking about what kind of creature you want to use for a replacement, think about some details about the creature.
If it's a terrestrial creatures, does it have a movement animation? Some terrestrial creatures, like Menphina with Dalamud, are stationary and thus do not have movement animations necessary for a terrestrial creature to appear to be walking or running. This is usually not an issue for floating/flying creatures that can get away with using their idle for movement.
Does it have any attack animations? Mounts do not usually have attack animation unless they are a variant or used in combat somewhere in the game. This can make creating a replacement far too difficult to execute well, which may result in me turning down the commission request.
Does the creature have particular attacks that you already know of that you can see replacing particular abilities that the summon has?
$150
I consider Chocobo to be the most complex and difficult creature to replace. If you're still interested in commissioning a creature replacement for it, and want an idea of price, I've thought of a base price to set for a replacement of the parts indicated above.
If the creature you want to use for the replacement requires more advanced editing and work, a higher price might need to be negotiated based on the complexity.
