Purdue Extension-Wabash County
Happy September All,
August came and went in a flurry of field days and educational events. Some programs were new to the county, while others continued long-standing traditions.
Two of the field days were large PARP events hosted by Purdue Extension, and a third was organized by McKillip Seeds near Roann. I also had the opportunity to co-lead and teach at the annual UWIN Invasive Species Field Day (pictured below), where participants observed drone demonstrations and gained hands-on experience with tree removal.
In addition, I was fortunate to pilot a new program with campus specialist Fred Whitford titled "A Simple Procedure for Fertilizing a Cool-Season Lawn." We welcomed 22 participants from Wabash and surrounding counties, all of whom received hands-on instruction in proper lawn fertilization practices. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees feeling confident and prepared to apply the correct amount of fertilizer to their lawns.
I'm also pleased to share that the Wabash Extension Master Gardener Program is growing. The energy and engagement at our August meeting have me hopeful for the continued revitalization of the Wabash Master Gardeners group.
Feel free to reach out if you'd like to have a meeting. However, September is a busy month so call or email before heading into the office. If you have any questions about upcoming programming or Ag questions in general, please reach out to the Extension Office. This annual event is made possible by the Upper Wabash Invasives Network (UWIN). I sit on the board for that and help coordinate speakers, topics and locations. This is the 4th year doing this program. This year we were at locations at Mississinewa Lake State Park.

A few counties were shifted around in the area breakdown. Wabash is now part of the East Central Area. It is a good group of educators with excellent experience and resources. It was fun getting to know these guys while helping with the Area Field Day. Over 200 people attended!
