Agriculture and Natural Resources
Purdue Extension-Wabash County
Greetings All,
We've made it to February! I am writing this on the 3rd of the month so I can report that we'll have 6 more weeks of winter now that the ground hog has seen his shadow...thanks for nothing Punxsutawney.
I've got PARPs, Landscape & Lawncare Sessions, Library Presentations and much more this February. A lot of my job is fitting in education when farmers and gardeners aren't in the field. It is a delicate balance of trying to keep things fresh and timely when farmers rarely have a spare minute.
Look for these classes in the fliers below and don't hesitate to ask or reach out if you have any questions.
Feel free to reach out if you'd like to have a meeting! However, February is a busy time so call or email before heading into the office. If you have any questions about upcoming programming or Ag questions in general, please reach out to the Extension Office. Phone: 260-563-0661 (Ext 1408) or emailing me directly at gschortg@purdue.edu
Best Wishes,
Geoff Schortgen

January Review!
I was honored to join the discussion and help present on house plants that live natively in Costa Rica. The presentation was lead by Miami County ANR/HHS educator Courtney Schmidt and we showed photos taken while doing a work trip to the tropical country. We compared the natively growing plants with those we grow inside our houses in Indiana .
Jr Master Gardener Seed Activity.
Learning new lesson plans.
Apple tasting lesson.
Seed Saving project.
I've used this greenhouse to germinate seed and take care of plants for the last 5 years, it it time to replace it.
I replaced the old greenhouse with this new 'grow
-shelf'. Each level will have lights and provide space to growp plants for furture programming.
Hoping to get this unit up and running to grow microgreens.
Smelling activity to teach students about insects and how they use sents to communicate.
Getting the succulents and pineapple ready for my February programing on vines and succulents.
Listening in on sweat-equity when transitioning farm ownership.
