Wabash County
Weed identification for Jr Master Gardeners
Happy August Everyone,
The dog days of summer are here! in the Extension Office we are all a bit jet-lagged from the fun and exciting Wabash County 4-h Fair. Our 4-H youth educator put in a ton of hours to keep the ball rolling and the kiddos did great in both the livestock and non-livestock projects. The 4-H youth in this county always surprise me with their projects!
In the agriculture world we have been hot an humid rounding out July. We were lucky during the fair to have decent temperatures and only one storm scare throughout the week. Farmers, keep an eye out for corn and soybean diseases with all the heat and humidity we've been getting. August is full of Invasive Species programs (see below) and turf talks.
If you have any questions feel free to reach out to the Extension Office and leave your name, phone number and e-mail address.

July Review
Mark Kepler, longtime Agriculture and Natural Resource Educator, retired from his post in Fulton County this Month. Mark had over 30 years of experience in extension. He worked with leadership programs and shared his excellent experiences with us newer educators. Mark has done so much for extension and we will miss his goofy nature and wealth of knowledge. Mark specialized in goats throughout his tenure, so what better gift than...a goat. The other Area 8 Educators and I pooled our resources and thought this would be a good retirement gift, now that he'll have more time attending his growing herd! Best wishes in retirement Mark!!!
Thank you everyone who participated in the
2023 Adult Planter Open Show
The fairgrounds have never looked better!!
I was able to teach a few turf lessons for the Miami County junior mastergardeners. We also had some time to look for 4-leaf clovers.
A group listened to our Regional Urban Soil Specialist, Jamie Perry, about potting soil and then we took a tour of the planters on the grounds.
These guys were able to collect over 15,000lbs of items to be donated to local food banks!!!!
The extension office awarded scholarships and 10-year 4-H awards prior to fair.
Things don't slow down EVER during the 4-H county fair. Full steam ahead.
This is a day when I am no longer an ANR educator but a 4-H educator!
Collecting planters to be spaced out around the fairgrounds and to be judged.
Had to stop out a local farm where I picked a few black berries to share with the students.
I traveled with the DNR to scout locations for the August 18 Invasives Field Day. Got caught in the rain, but we got the job done.
