Purdue Extension-Wabash County
Happy June Everyone,
Summer is in the air! May was a wet month, thankfully, most farmers were able to get seeds in the ground during what few dry spells we had. Corn and Soybeans are looking great and the lawns keep on growing. Gardens have been planted and the veggies are taking off. I help coordinate half a dozen community gardens around the county and I'm glad to see all the helping hands make things grow. In May we had 18 individuals take and pass the Extension Master Gardner Basic Training. They are a great group and look for them in the community as they continue to volunteer and learn.
June is full of house visits and meetings for summer prep-work. The Extension office is in high gear getting ready for our 4-H Fair and maybe sneaking in a vacation or two. During these busy times feel free to reach out, but if you'd like to have an in person meeting, please call or email ahead of time just in case.
If you have any questions about upcoming programming or Ag questions in general, feel free to reach out to the Extension Office.

May Review
Our 2024 spring training wrapped up with our 18 students taking the final. We had a great crew this year with some excellent speakers.
Southwood received 7 raised beds that were put in the courthouse. The hope is to have produce for the students to eat in the fall.
There was a great turnout at the Troyer Memorial Public Library's Seed Swap and Plant Giveaway! There were seeds for the garden, houseplants for inside and resources from our team.
Thank you Precision Ag for cleaning out and planting the community gardens in town.
Sedges often do well in shady moist areas. I am working on a publication to highlight options for the home landscape.
Part of working in Purdue Extension is revising old publications. I went to campus to edit ornamental grass publications and sedge options.
The 6th grade Wabash students making their own salsa.
Precision Ag fertilized and seeded the prairie area during 6th grade STEM field work.
6th graders planting beds at the Wabash High School location.
We walked trails and visited Winona Lake while having our office Spring Retreat and Pre-fair meeting.
Checking out options for landscape fabric at the local stores to help folks get an idea of what is available.
