Agriculture and Natural Resources
Purdue Extension-Wabash County
Greetings All,
February was a short month, but there were some long days! In Extension, especially in the Ag & Natural Resources program area, we try to squeeze in as many programs as possible before farmers and green industry folks start working outside. That means farmer classes, home and garden shows, lawncare seminars and much more. In February I worked and spoke at the Indiana Green Expo in Indianapolis, the Home and Garden Show in Fort Wayne, and I lead the 2025 Wabash Valley Landscape and Lawncare Series. All while teaching at the local libraries and STEM classes for 6th graders in North Manchester.
In March I am kicking off the 2025 Spring Extension Master Gardener Basic Training in partnership with Huntington and Miami County Extenison. The class this year will be meeting each Thursday from 2:00-5:00pm starting March 6 until May 30th. We will cover vegetable gardening, ornamentals, trees, weeds, pests, invasives species and much more! March is also the month where I visit the 4th graders in the county for our Ag in the Classroom Program.
Feel free to reach out if you'd like to have a meeting! However, March is a busy time so call or email before heading into the office. If you have any questions about upcoming programming or Ag questions in general, please reach out to the Extension Office. Phone: 260-563-0661 (Ext 1408) or emailing me directly at gschortg@purdue.edu
Best Wishes,

February Review!
This is the 4th year I have lead this program. It was our largest group yet!
We have a Monthly Extension Program Scheduled at the Troyer Memorial Library, in February we covered vines and succulents. Everyone got to go home with multiple plants!
This program helps fulfill my state-level educator duties. I typically help at registration and give presentations. This year I got to speak on Canada Thistle and Water Quality When Using Herbicides.
We had a great turnout and impressive speakers for our winter farmer class, many participant join us to get their PARP (private applicator) points. Topics include drones, micronutrients in corn, soybean update and regulatory topics.

Education!
Grow Wabash hosts a State of the Communities Breakfast for partners in Wabash County. Our office tries to attend this event each year as it host many of our stakeholder partners, provides township updates, and an excellent place to network with the county.
