[GAME IDEATION - INNOCADEMY]

OVERVIEW

Use these three criteria to test your game ideas: Design a Live Action Role Playing (LARP) game that:

  1. uses wearable technologies
  2. will help curb anti-social and disruptive behavior in a school setting
  3. students will want to play

STEP 1: TAKE NOTE OF THE TECHNOLOGY OPTIONS FOR THE GAME

Students can see the KCAD research on these technologies in the pull down menu under "RESEARCH".

  • Wearable Tech.: watches, pendant, eyeglasses, sewn into clothing, embedded into the skin.
  • Proximity sensing: Actions on digital devices triggered by the proximate location of persons.
  • Geolocation: where persons are located in the world
  • Vital signs monitoring: heart rate, temperature, blood pressure, etc. that can provide indications of mental states such as anxiety.
  • Motion sensors: that can monitoring physical activity like walking and running.
  • Real time data input: the WAZE app is an example of this (drivers can input information very easily by simply pushing large buttons)
  • Real time data processing in the cloud
  • Traditional desktop, tablet and phone technology
  • Other?

STEP 2: THROW DOWN IDEAS AND LIST THEM... ALL OF THEM

  • Design a game that can be played between real students, at school, using digital technology, that will result in a more fun and inclusive experience.
  • Answer the questions in the list. You can develop the answers in any order and will likely need to move around the list as you develop concepts.
  • Determine the age range that the game would be appropriate for

GAME IDEA 1: Agent 13 (age range = 10-13)

  • What is the goal of the game (how do you win or what is the collective goal?)
  • List the roles the humans (teachers, students, aids, etc.) will play in the game? The students will play Spies, trying to find out the code to a safe?
  • List other physical game assets that would be needed
  • List technology that would be utilized
  • Describe the locations where the game will be played
  • Figure out the duration of the gameplay
  • How does the gameplay work

GAME IDEA 2 (age range = ?)

  • What is the goal of the game (how do you win or what is the collective goal?)
  • List the roles the humans (teachers, students, aids, etc.) will play in the game
  • List other physical game assets that would be needed
  • List technology that would be utilized
  • Describe the locations where the game will be played
  • Figure out the duration of the gameplay
  • How does the gameplay work

GAME IDEA 3 (age range = ?)

GAME IDEA 4 (age range = ?)

GAME IDEA 5 (age range = ?)

GAME IDEA 6 (age range = ?)

STEP 3: NARROW THE LIST DOWN TO ONE FINAL GAME IDEA

Use these three criteria to test your game ideas:

  1. uses wearable technologies
  2. will help curb anti-social and disruptive behavior in a school setting
  3. students will want to play
  • What is the age range?
  • What is the goal of the game (how do you win)?
  • List the roles the humans (teachers, students, aids, etc.) will play in the game
  • List other physical game assets that would be needed
  • List technology that would be utilized
  • Describe the locations where the game will be played
  • Figure out the duration of the gameplay
  • How does the gameplay work
